From Average to Awesone
Just spent a couple of nights at Coniston Park Coppice. I’m pleased to say that the access roads weren’t as bad as I feared. We arrived ar 11.15 and were really pleased that we could arrive from 10.00. We weren’t too keen on the site at first as there didn’t seem to be much of a view from any of the pitches. It was very busy, as expected, as we arrived Easter Sunday. We drove around a couple of times before we settled on pitch 152. This was not in our preferred area but turned out to be a good choice. I liked the woodland setting but my husband wasn’t keen. However it was so peaceful and relaxing that he changed his mind. But it was when we got out for a walk that we really started to enjoy this park. The first day we walked along the lakeshore to Sunny Bank and we had all these little coves to ourselves. The next day we walked in the other direction, around the lake to Brantwood and the views on the other side of the lake were amazing. We then walked into Coniston for lunch before tackling the lower slopes of The Old Man of Coniston. I wasn’t keen on the narrow paths but again we had the place to ourselves and the views were worth it. That evening we strolled along the lake, watching the sun dip behind the fells. On our final day we enjoyed the spectacular views of Tarn Hows, one of the most stunning walks we have done. We finished our stay with a walk along the lakeshore at Monk Coniston. We asked when we needed to leave and we’re told we could stay until 12.30, which we appreciated. We ended up loving this site. There is still so much that we didn’t get to do such as a walk to the pub, trying the food van walking more of the amazing routes around the lake and fells and we can’t wait to return for longer.
