Beautiful location
The site is located just a few hundred yards from Coniston lake, and your surrounded by the woods. It’s beautiful…
It’s a very large site, so if you get chance take a look around before picking your spot, although it can be difficult with a large caravan in tow. We went for the closest one that looked ok, which it was
The facilities are spotlessly clean, with plenty of showers etc and require a key to access them which is handed to you when you arrive along with the key fob for the entrance gate. The staff are all very friendly and welcoming
You can walk to Coniston village from the site along the edge of the lake which takes about 20-30 minutes, check out the Blue Bird cafe right on the edge of the water, and dog friendly
On some nights they have a food wagon on site, with a pizza night and fabulous fish and chips so well worth trying this out. You can pre order a time slot to pick up your food from 6pm and that works very well, with only a little waiting around.
My only issue with this site, is getting to it, the final 5-6 miles are very winding and narrow in places. We came in from the South as per the club directions, but we also did a reconnaissance trip in the car from the North (Ambleside) to see what it was like. I’m glad I did, I definitely wouldn’t come in from the North it’s very winding and tight roads.
Having said the above, we have a 26ft / 8ft caravan with a large Range Rover on the front, so it’s a big rig, we met a HGV lorry coming in, and then a bus coming out, and in certain places you can’t pass. We got lucky and met in a tight spot but just managed it on both occasions, but personally this would make me worried about returning with our rig, and we even left a day early in the morning to avoid arriving Friday bank holiday traffic. I didn’t think about the tour buses! Lol
