A hidden gem

We got the site as a last minute booking due to the site we were supposed to go to being flooded. We could not have been more pleased. We only had 3 nights here but it felt like we had stayed for a week when we left. Loved the ability to turn up after 10am this gave you almost an extra day. The site is large but well sectioned off with no pitch the same. We had pitch 115, close to the facilities and the Lake for husband and his paddleboard. We got the sun (when it was not raining) on our pitch which was nice and most pitches are lovely and big. We tried the onsite catering facility on our first night and the Pizza's were amazingly tasty, they must be good as the site has bins specially for the Pizza boxes near the service areas. A great site to walk up and over The Old Man of Coniston from, or to just walk or cycle to Coniston. We tried the boat from Coniston, sadly due to the high water level you could not hop on or off the boats as most Jetty's were flooded. The boat trip round the Lake was lovely and enjoyed by us and the dog and next time we want to try the steam boat. Its just a shame the Lake does not have a footpath all the way round like Derwent water but I still enjoyed walking round what I could with the dog while hubby boarded. We never got the chance to try out any local pubs but the Bluebird cafe at the boat launch did lovely food and ice cream, plus its dog friendly. If you like wooded sites that are very nature friendly with great staff and good facilities you'll love this. To us its one up from their lovely site in Borrowdale. Another on our list to return to.
