Top-notch site open all year round
My wife and I visited this site for a week in March 2019. We were fortunate to have great weather and despite the trees being still bare at that time of year the site was very pretty and well-kept. The toilet blocks are well-equipped, well-heated and clean. The service points are also well-equipped and are conveniently located. Quite a busy site with comings and goings but provide late arrival bays to keep things peaceful. Short walk from the lake-side and decent footpaths in both directions to the local villages.
The journey to the site following the directions in the handbook is a little challenging at times, with roads being narrow and winding in places -- inexperienced drivers should take things slow for about 6 miles until you get to the site.
There is not too much to do in the local area but there are some nice walks and you can always drive to Ambleside in about 15 minutes. The village of Coniston also has a petrol station and a Spar and Co-Op for supplies. We recommend the "Our Plaice" fish shop but not the "Ship Inn". No atmosphere at the latter and low-quality frozen food.
Staff were very friendly and welcoming and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
