Good for families

so dark, too many trees

we have just returned from 5 nights on this site. It is a big site, but doesnt feel that big as most of the vans are parked in small cul de sac type areas, which is good really. The toilet were spotless, no complaints there, but why do you need a key to access the toilet block, ridiculous if you ask me. However, the site was sodden, there had been alot of rain prior to our visit, but with there being so many over hanging trees, when the sun did come out, there was no way the land could dry out, there was also a spring by the front of our van, so, constant wet feet getting in and out of the car and the caravan and with a dog it was impossible to keep clean, and this was for the whole of the 5 nights we were there. Location was good, and a lovely walk was to be had a night down to the lake, into the village and back again along the track. We visited in September, but I am sure that in the summer months the site would be plagued with insects because of so many trees and shrubs. I dont think we will be staying on that site again for the reasons we have stated.

As the site is run by the club on National trust property it is they who have a say on what can be done with the trees which act as a screen to hide the LVs from the Lake but without trees and insects we would all be history by now, surprised

I would expect the keys for the toilet blocks will be to deter Coniston Hall camping field along with passing walkers from using them, hence keeping them in such spotless condition 👍

The site is in National Trust Woodland, it's a Forest with birds, squirrels and owls. and I agree with JVB66's comment without trees and insects we're history. This site is a jewel, it's nature accommodating humans, instead of how it usually is humans tolerating nature. Enjoy the site and every unique thing it has to offer.
