We stayed in mid September in a compact motorhome and enjoyed our visit and would stay here again. It's a large site but the pitches are well spread out amongst the trees so it doesn't feel too big. We found a pitch on the edge of the site recommended by one of the wardens which felt more like wild camping with views into the woods and owls hooting at night. You can walk in to Coniston village either by the lower route near the lake or out of the top of the site along the old railway line. There is also a walk in the other direction to the village of Torver which has a couple of pubs.
