Good for families

Not for me

We stayed for five nights on this site in our motor home, having initially booked for seven nights, but unfortunately I didn't feel the love for this site that others apparently do. We of course knew on booking that the site is in woodland, but I didn't realise quite how dense the tree coverage is, and consequently how gloomy it makes so many of the pitches. Admittedly we had little sunshine, but what there was was hard to experience through the tree canopy. If you like a site with lots of space- the pitches are well apart and not in regimented rows - but not worried about having views other than trees, then this site is for you; I found it claustrophobic. The majority of the pitches are on slate 'gravel'. , with very little grass around, which for me added to the gloom - I do think the pictures here of sunny grassy pitches are somewhat misleading and not typical of the pitches . I felt as if we were pitched in a lay-by or in a car park. The site is huge - too huge for me, if you don't pitch near one of the three shower blocks or water access points, you have a fair old trot to one. And the distances quoted for walking into Coniston either along the old railway line or by the Lake - actually through Coniston Hall campsite - are optimistic to put it mildly. The site is well kept and clean, and mobile reception and wifi signal fine where we were pitched,

I completely agree with the Dorset reviewer of 19 June 2019; where are you coming from? Set within beautiful woodland on National Trust land and fringing Coniston Water, Park Coppice site is one of the CAMC’s most beautiful sites. The description is accurate from its woodland setting to the proximity of the facilities of Coniston. There are a choice of walks into the village; all of them very scenic.

Park Coppice is very special as it is beautifully secreted within its canopy of trees preserved by the National Trust.

The site is a walkers paradise with an easy ascent to the Old Man of Coniston from Little Arrow just off the Torver road.

This is Cumbria, not Benidorm!
