Disappointing arrival experience

Stayed for three nights arriving late Friday evening after a hectic journey. Was in a queue behind two people trying to check in as part of a group. Was horrified at how the lady receptionist with blonde hair & glasses treat the customer with what I would describe as quite a stroppy attitude, just because they said their party may arrive after 8pm. Fortunately, the receptionist changed her tune with me. Unfortunately, I was told to drive around the site and take my pick of pitch and to let her know my pitch number before 8pm. Three quarters of an hour later and two full laps of the site - which is a maze in the dark and rain in a 28ft motorhome, I was about to give up and go home. My wife spoke to one of the male wardens who then checked available pitches, to advise a choice of three available and if these weren't suitable, to move pitches in the morning when they had fifty or so planned departures. So why couldn't the lady advise which pitches were available? We ended up on what we deemed to be the best of the bunch which was waterlogged and muddy. We moved the following day. The problem with this site is they give you a photo copied site plan map which is very difficult to read. Add to it that different parts of the site are named after Lake District areas - but these areas are missing from the site plan they give you. You can't see the pitch marker numbers whilst driving round because other members units are pitched in the way. Those that are available, you can't see the number because it was dark. Because of the trees, it's fairly dark during daylight hours. That aside, if you like staying under trees with little natural daylight, this site will be for you. There were a few areas which offered an open glaze, but arrive late and you'll miss out during peak times. Facilities are like what you'd come to expect from a club site and the site was very clean and tidy. We walked from the site along the lakeside path into Coniston, which is very nice and offers a selection of pubs, cafes and a few shops. There's also the boat rides and boat hire on Coniston lake which is worthwhile. On the whole, it was a nice site, but I think that a more friendly and helpful check in experience would have made our stay a more enjoyable experience.
