Brilliant location for exploring Southern and West Lakes

Many years ago we stayed at this site and decided to return with our daughter and family who are now caravaners. Although it was full because it was half term there was still the air of tranquility and quietness. If you are happy with a pitch in woodland this is for you as most of the pitches are under trees. The site is well laid out with a number of areas separated by woodland. The site is a short distance from Coniston village. It takes between 20 and 30 minutes to walk there. At the village there are a number of cafes and the one by the Lake is worthwhile going to. It is busy but well managed and organised. The site is ideally situated for exploring the southern and western lakes. There are lovely walks suitable for all abilities. A trip on the steam gondola is well worth doing. Our two grandchildren (11 and 13) had a great time. On a particularly wet day they had a brilliant time on Go Ape in Grizedale Forest. One concern was the state the toilets were left in the morning (clearly done by caravanners and left for others including the wardens to clean). All in all we enjoyed our return to the site and would highly recommend it.
