Easter 2016 at Clumber
We are caravanners and had decided to make our first full weekend break of 2016 at Clumber Park that was our first visit to this site. The directions were very good although the Sat Nav did its job and as were wee approaching from the A1 there were no problems. We had the customary hearty greetings from the wardens at reception before selecting a nice pitch with hard standing.
The site is on the large side but is fringed with mature trees and nicely laid out. There is a popular children's play area that acted like a magnet to the younger set and if like us you are old codgers then you will know to give the play area a bit of space.
The early spring weather can always be variable but mostly screened by the surrounding trees it is also fairly sheltered.
You will see lots of wild life in this former deer park without having to look too hard and it is an ideal centre for cyclists and walkers with literally miles of tracks to roam but beware of traffic using the main routes through the park.
There are warning notices about ensuring your bikes are locked up when not in use and we suspected that there may have been problems with petty theft. The familiar site security barriers inhibit unauthorised vehicular traffic but there are access points provided for dog walkers at the perimeter fence and these could be used for unauthorised access at any time.
The main thing that lets this site down is the sanitation blocks which although they are of course regularly cleaned are now looking very tired and both blocks are in need of a makeover. The shower cubicles are small and there are not as many as one would like in such a large site which of course can lead to queuing at peak times.
In addition the recycling provision is limited allowing only for the recycling of glass ware and nothing can be separated out by way of card or paper so it all goes into mixed waste and presumably thence into landfill which is at deference to modern thinking.
Overall we had a satisfying stay at Clumber Park for three nights but it needs a bit of work to bring it up to the standards one may find on club sites elsewhere.
