Breathe deeply and relax.
Second visit the Clumber 9th to 16th November and this time we really enjoyed it. Last time we lost a member of the family and it was a sad visit.
This time we were greeted warmly by the wardens, got sited and settled down fo a weeks total relaxation, mostly reading with long long walks everyday. It got really busy over the weekend. Surprised to see two monster vans arriving (travellers) with very noisy children (7) who roamed the site screaming at the top of their voices. The wardens attempted to control things but there was little evidence of parental supervision. We were out walking everyday and followed the NT cycle paths that take you all around the estate and lake area. Thorsby Hall is a beautiful spot to visit and has a shop selling Indian Whiskey and some very nice gins that the owner will gladly share with you. The site itself is mostly okay but I agree with the comments about the hard standings. They all need a good raking. Where awnings have stood there is usually a dip where the stones have moved and its gets muddy. The toilet block (only 1 was open) needs some tlc. The wardens kept it clean but the showers look tired and longer curtains needed. The children mentioned earlier seemed to delight in trying to empty the soap dispensers. There were still notices regarding the dog illness at some of the club sites but our hound suffered from nothing apart from tiredness. A wonderful week. Big thank you to all the wardens we have met over the year
