Not so Secret Garden

Fourth time visited and still just as fabulous. A magical location with a hint of Francis Hodgson Burnett, the wardens friendly and supportive, the site itself immaculate - it really doesn't need any more recommendations as the difficulty in booking a stay suggests. However some suggestions be as lucky as we were in staying for a while, particular if you enjoy a walk. The Edges are stunning, the Monsal Trail to Monsal Head also to be recommended and did you know you can walk to 3 Devonshire Arms from the site to enjoy a pint of the local brew? The first in Baslow is the nearest, the second in Beeley at the end of a stroll across the length of the park and the third, our principal discovery of this trip, in Pilsley. We set ourselves the task to walk to all 3 and it was wet the day we were due to go to Pilsley. No matter, we were warmly welcomed in, even with a wet springer, so we all sat gently steaming, enjoying the atmosphere. Didn't eat as that would push the spaniels patience a little too far, but it looked good! One for our next visit to one of our favourite sites on the network.
