Not quite up to expectations

Finally managed to book into Chatsworth - our first visit as we'd never been able to secure a booking before. On the plus side, the easy access to the Chatsworth Estate is excellent, and we'd recommend saving the best part of a day to wander around the gardens which have many hidden surprises (and the gardens are dog friendly).  The walk into Edensor village on the estate is also pleasant and there is a pretty little tea room there that we can recommend. Bakewell is nearby with the mandatory Bakewell Pudding and/or tart to buy.  We also visited Lyme Park near Disley which has some lovely walks and views, and also the gardens at Pooles Cavern and Country Park.  The Country Park is on a hill so expect a bit of a climb but again the views are good - park at the car park adjacent to the Caverns.  (We didn't try the caverns themselves but they seem to get good reviews). On site, the pitches seem small by usual CC standards. There were some niggles too with the dog bins left unemptied for several days; there was also a power failure lasting most of an evening - not too much of a problem except that this also cuts out the water supply apparently so the toilet block was locked closed during the power outage.   There's a lot of wildlife around the site with pheasants wandering freely around.  (The dawn chorus was rather loud though!) Overall we enjoyed our stay but felt that the site was expensive for what's on offer.
