A Derbyshire Gem (admits a Yorkshireman)

Castleton is one of those places that can be tricky to get to when towing a caravan. For this reason the Club rightly gives good route instructions - basically come from the M1 via Chesterfield / Baslow if you're travelling from West Yorkshire. It's a huge diversion from the direct route over the tops, but well worth it for the destination The site is everything you expect from a Club one. Hardstanding pitches here are a must given the often wet weather, although Good Friday on our visit was as glorious as I can remember. The walking around the town and hills is amazing. Be sure to go and see the old (closed to traffic) crumbling and slipping road around Mam Tor - great for mountain bikers and walkers alike. The pubs locally are all excellent - great food and beer. They all seem to be in competition hence the high level of grub available. The tea rooms and cafes are good too. All in all a fantastic place for a visit with your caravan, but research your route carefully and check it online first
