We stayed here for two nights in February 2022. A great base for walking and just a short walk into Castleton. Some great pub food to be had in cosy, dog friendly pubs. Amenities on site were spotless and the drying room is a bonus. No more wet equipment dripping in unit. Staff pleasant and helpful. A great site. will definitely return.
Stayed at castleton a couple weeks ago our first trip of the year, the welcome from staff was great and site was just as good as the last time we visited.
We will be back in March and again throughout the year, it was wet and windy when Stayed but there is plenty of pubs, cafés and Buxton isn't that far away.
Pity castleton isn't bigger then we could visit more often keep up the great work.
Arrival was straight forward with the usual covid procedures still in place which we found surprising. Some visitors adhered to the mask wearing others didn't. The site was very busy even though the forecast was pretty grim. Great location to walk in to Castleton and see the shops. sadly, a number of the properties are now holiday lets. Good number of eatery's but few shops selling food supplies. The site was well laid out as you would expect with well kept toilet facilities which were also well heated, unless you were unfortunate enough to find a cubicle with the window open for covid reasons! At the end of our two night stay we needed to empty our waste tank from the camper van and was surprised that there was no motor home point on the way out. So we had to re-enter the site, empty our tank and proceed to drive all the way round the site to the exit. We did see someone reverse up passed the no entry signage to get to the motor home point. Perhaps a second MHP would be beneficial.
The staff were very friendly and helpful, the facilities block was always spotlessly clean and were of an excellent standard.
The site is only 10 minutes walk from the centre of Castleton and is ideally placed for walking and cycling in the Peak District.
So overall I was very pleased with the staff and the site.
The only problem that I had was that though on the door of the facilities block there was a very clear notice asking members to wear a face covering many of the members did not, that was very dissapointing.
Stayed for a few days in Feb 2022. Clean, peaceful and ideal for a winter break.
Castleton is a short walk away and has plenty of pubs - you could eat somewhere different every day of your holiday.
Between Covid and how busy the site is, have tried a few times to stay here. Managed it in January and loved it. Great site, lovely welcome and clean and warm facilities. Numerous access to various walks all the way round to Mam Tor and many others. Even better, 20 min walk to Castleton and numerous good quality pubs at varying levels. Loved the George for good old fashioned pub, dog friendly and lovely beers. The Bull on return leg from Mam Tor perfectly located for great pie and a pint.
Easy access to the site from main road but do follow the site instructions not Sat Nav. Tried to return but booked out. Will keep trying!!!
This was our first stay at this site and I would like to begin by saying we will definitely be back. Upon arrival, the wardens were extremely helpful (the elder couple) who basically told us to choose our pitch and return when we could for the barrier. We chose a nice flat pitch quite close to the one toilet block, which initially when I saw the site was practically fully booked, I thought would be a problem with the amount of people using it, but it turned out the opposite. They were spotlessly clean, and although a little dated and the pressure from the showers wasnt brilliant, they were fine. What I couldnt understand though is why the windows were left open when it was bitterly cold!! Might be down to Covid measures but it certainly made you get a move on! The site has many fantastic amenities such as a good information room, drying room, games room (although not open) and plenty of service points. The real gem was though due to how close to the village of Castleton it was. A 5 minute stroll out of the gate and you are in one of the prettiest villages I have ever seen. We ate out in The Peak hotel which did lovely food and beer in front of a log burner!! I did call into the local store for a loaf of bread and was put off by the £2.59 price tag though! There were brooks, waterfalls, and many quaint little shops in the village. We found a lovely walk back to the site off the main road in the hills and for those with dogs (which we saw most people with) it was ideal. All the pubs are dog friendly. Be aware not to park adjacent to the road on the left hand side of the site though as there is a lot of road noise! The only thing that spoiled our time away was when I was outside the van getting something out the front locker and my little dog was standing at the side of me as she follows me everywhere, was when the younger male warden walked past and said immediately "Dogs have to be a on a lead" in a grumpy voice. No "good morning", or "would you mind keeping your dog on a lead" I didn't reply to him!! That little incident did not take away what a wonderful site this is though and the area it is in. Stunning!
Stayed here for a few days but not through choice, as Clumber Park is closed for refurb.
As advised on the app confirmation we arrived after noon, 12.25 to be precise, only to find 4 units queued up at reception.
I was greeted by a very rude male warden when I was told arrivals were from 1pm. Obviously this was not common knowledge due to the number of units waiting to enter. When I tried to show him my confirmation arrival time, he rudely stated he was not interested, as he is shown them all the time, and 1pm arrivals had been in place for 2 years.
Being spoken to in this manner is unacceptable when I pay to join the club.
I would suggest he has a refresher course on customer skills and service.
Throughout our stay the laundrette was closed due to water leaking through the roof and causing a power outage. When we enquired as to when it would reopen we were informed that head office had not yet replied to the email that was sent.and they would resend the email. It was still closed when we left. Not helpful at all as we are travelling round for a few months so.need laundering facilities.
I would like to start by saying that the wardens were very friendly and the site was lovely and clean. The site though I found to be very tight. As you can see by the site plan there are a lot of non awning pitches which equates to smaller pitches. Because it is so popular it runs full or nearly full all week so there wasn’t the feeling of space that you get on other camc sites.
I would return here again and again though (if I could get in!) because Castleton itself is beautiful with lots of walks straight from the campsite, which, when you are in a motorhome is brilliant.
What a fabulous site! Great for walks pubs and shops. The wardens are lovely too and keep the site in an immaculate condition. Their check in procedures are efficient, time saving and COVID friendly- I suggest they are adopted by all sites!
We will be back.
