Excellent site in a great location.

We didn't find the access to the site nearly as bad as some others have. The road from Campbeltown to Carradale is perfectly OK for any competent/confident driver and the site access road wasn't too bad. (The road North to Claonaig is not one I'd recommend if towing or in a large motorhome, however - single track much of the way and, although quiet, you'd be up the swanee if you met something coming the other way at the wrong point). The site itself is well laid out and with spacious pitches. The beach it fronts on to is glorious. Excellent for walking dogs. Several good walks in the area also. Good pubs and cafes nearby. Friendly owner and locals. A good toilet/ shower building. Midge free (for us at least!) Wifi is limited (pitch near the amenities building if you're relying on it, pitches further away won't get it. Having said which it is really cheap so nothing much losy if you find it doesn't work for you. ) Phone reception (on all networks) is 2G only. Nearest petrol is in Campbeltown. Above all this site (outside of school holidays, at least!) is tranquil. We will be back.

Motorhome pitch

Fantastic location with stunning views. Made journey there and back via South route to/from Campbeltown, only one hill on return journey a 1st gear challenge just after village of Saddell (7.5m motorhome) . Check in no problem, found pitch had no sea view but asked to move, which was no problem, got great pitch with sea view and no path through or next to our pitch to beach (refer to Tom Jode's review, I can understand and totally agree with his issue, and we are dog owners who would never walk through someone else's pitch, there is an access road to the beach). Pitch was grass with sandy soil so good drainage and no sinking or mud when it rained. Used ramps to level the van but most pitches including ours were resonably level overall. Water pressure is poor, to fill tank takes quite a while.( an issue in most sites around this area). You need Green toilet fluid for cassette on board van/caravan , Blue is not to be used ( Green fluid available from reception, £10.00) Motorhome waste tank empty point is adjacent to bins at toilet block under galvanised drain cover, can take a bit of manoeuvring to line up with van if you don't have a drain hose. Some pitches had gazebo's/boats/canoes and all sorts of things lying around which encroached on adjacent pitches and gave the overall impression of being untidy. Beach is on your doorstep with totally stunning views. Kids were allowed to roam around site until late, on one occasion 11pm making some noise which may just be due to school holidays. Access track to the site condition has been mentioned on other reviews, pot holes were being in filled as we left 14/07/16. Great walks from the site through the adjacent woods with sign posting , easy walking distance to reach  café/hotel/shop etc in Carradale.

Dog tired !

A lovely location, reasonably level grass pitches with clean modern facilities. We came down the east road and I can inform future visitors that most of the route has been re tared with some on going work (first week June 2016). My only complaints were that people seemed to ignore the usual manners of not encroaching too close to your pitch. We had a gap in the hedge behind our van that dog owners decided they could use as a short cut to the beach. My wife and I are not huge dog lovers but usually we can live and let live, it's not the dog's fault that they have inconsiderate owners ! Back to the site itself, the water in the showers I found not to be hot enough and yet in the plate wash area it was dangerously scalding. For all that we would visit again. Look out for the very tame blackbirds, we had two who would come into the back of the van for crumbs, they were very welcome as apposed to the dogs who nearly came into the back of the van !!!!!

Best Site Ever!

What more do I need to say?  Our pitch was facing out towards the sea and it was a stones throw to get onto the beach!  The facilities were spotless and plentiful.  The owner was really friendly, very busy, but always time for a chat and recommendations.  As soon as we arrived we just relaxed.  So much so we forgot to fill up with water before pitching!!  Amazing views and the bay is great for kayaking.  The dogs loved playing on the beach and you could have BBQ's etc on the beach too which was great.  All the other campers were super friendly and relaxed too, there is something about the area.  Even the children in the village stopped to say hello.  Can't wait to go back, trying to work out how long we can stay there for next time as a week wasn't long enough!  Oh and we went home north on the east side rather than down to Campbeltown and up the west and we found it a lot better with our large twin axle caravan....not so many hills!  I know there is a lot of debate over which way to go!

outstanding site

This was our first visit to Carradale if you want peace and a tranquil site then this is the place for you. Our pitch was less than 100 yards from the beach which is over a mile long and on which we enjoyed many a walk. The facilities are clean and never over crowded, its a green site. Colin looked after us exceptionally well. Please don't visit this place we don't want to spoil what is the best site we have visited so far and which we want to keep the secret from being spoilt from vast number of people visiting this lovely location. We will be back without doubt

Beware the roads.

Just been here for a weeks holiday and whilst we loved the site and the area, be aware that the road surfaces on the Mull of Kintyre are terrible. Loads of potholes and pitted surfaces, also the track down to the actual site is long and rutted. The roads were so bad that we lost tyre pressure in every wheel on the car and our fridge moved! Having said that the area is beautiful with great views and good walks.

Gem of a site

If you remember seaside holidays with big empty beaches and sand dunes to hide in with spectacular views, then this site will take you back to your childhood. It is not easy to access but a spectacular drive, as long as you avoid the hostile natives on the Single track B road. The showers are hot but the block is not. Water points are few and a little low in pressure but hey this is a chill out zone so enjoy the journey. Can imagine it being good with bikes for transport, especially if they were electric to get up the hills! Hidden treasure??

Stunning location and a friendly site

This site is beautifully located 50m from a one mile sandy beach surrounded by lush green headlands. The owner, Colin, is friendly and helpful and nothing is too much trouble. The toilets and showers are modern, clean and tidy although some youngsters had them in a bit of a state one evening - it didn't happen again as I suspect Colin had a word and a notice appeared on the access door........to parents!! There's a community of caravan owners and regular campers who make you feel really welcome and I'd definitely recommend the site for families as the kids all get along together - nice to hear the happy sounds of them playing! There are plenty of good walks and brilliant for dogs. Its worth the long drive as its soooo beautifullll and peceful!! Take the ferry from Ardrossan to Campbeltown, relax on the boat and save a bit of driving!!

One of the Best Sites in Scotland

The site is only yards from a shingle beach and the sea. The toilets are clean and tidy. Lots to see on Kintyre and the Mull. Good local restaurants. Local cafe. Local well stocked shop. Tesco's is in Campbeltown, about 15 miles away. Colin (site owner) is only to happy to assit with any information you need. The site as Wi-Fi. We highly recommend this site. We have already booked for next year.
