Dog tired !

A lovely location, reasonably level grass pitches with clean modern facilities. We came down the east road and I can inform future visitors that most of the route has been re tared with some on going work (first week June 2016). My only complaints were that people seemed to ignore the usual manners of not encroaching too close to your pitch. We had a gap in the hedge behind our van that dog owners decided they could use as a short cut to the beach. My wife and I are not huge dog lovers but usually we can live and let live, it's not the dog's fault that they have inconsiderate owners ! Back to the site itself, the water in the showers I found not to be hot enough and yet in the plate wash area it was dangerously scalding. For all that we would visit again. Look out for the very tame blackbirds, we had two who would come into the back of the van for crumbs, they were very welcome as apposed to the dogs who nearly came into the back of the van !!!!!

Best Site Ever!

What more do I need to say?  Our pitch was facing out towards the sea and it was a stones throw to get onto the beach!  The facilities were spotless and plentiful.  The owner was really friendly, very busy, but always time for a chat and recommendations.  As soon as we arrived we just relaxed.  So much so we forgot to fill up with water before pitching!!  Amazing views and the bay is great for kayaking.  The dogs loved playing on the beach and you could have BBQ's etc on the beach too which was great.  All the other campers were super friendly and relaxed too, there is something about the area.  Even the children in the village stopped to say hello.  Can't wait to go back, trying to work out how long we can stay there for next time as a week wasn't long enough!  Oh and we went home north on the east side rather than down to Campbeltown and up the west and we found it a lot better with our large twin axle caravan....not so many hills!  I know there is a lot of debate over which way to go!

outstanding site

This was our first visit to Carradale if you want peace and a tranquil site then this is the place for you. Our pitch was less than 100 yards from the beach which is over a mile long and on which we enjoyed many a walk. The facilities are clean and never over crowded, its a green site. Colin looked after us exceptionally well. Please don't visit this place we don't want to spoil what is the best site we have visited so far and which we want to keep the secret from being spoilt from vast number of people visiting this lovely location. We will be back without doubt

Beware the roads.

Just been here for a weeks holiday and whilst we loved the site and the area, be aware that the road surfaces on the Mull of Kintyre are terrible. Loads of potholes and pitted surfaces, also the track down to the actual site is long and rutted. The roads were so bad that we lost tyre pressure in every wheel on the car and our fridge moved! Having said that the area is beautiful with great views and good walks.

Gem of a site

If you remember seaside holidays with big empty beaches and sand dunes to hide in with spectacular views, then this site will take you back to your childhood. It is not easy to access but a spectacular drive, as long as you avoid the hostile natives on the Single track B road. The showers are hot but the block is not. Water points are few and a little low in pressure but hey this is a chill out zone so enjoy the journey. Can imagine it being good with bikes for transport, especially if they were electric to get up the hills! Hidden treasure??

Stunning location and a friendly site

This site is beautifully located 50m from a one mile sandy beach surrounded by lush green headlands. The owner, Colin, is friendly and helpful and nothing is too much trouble. The toilets and showers are modern, clean and tidy although some youngsters had them in a bit of a state one evening - it didn't happen again as I suspect Colin had a word and a notice appeared on the access door........to parents!! There's a community of caravan owners and regular campers who make you feel really welcome and I'd definitely recommend the site for families as the kids all get along together - nice to hear the happy sounds of them playing! There are plenty of good walks and brilliant for dogs. Its worth the long drive as its soooo beautifullll and peceful!! Take the ferry from Ardrossan to Campbeltown, relax on the boat and save a bit of driving!!

One of the Best Sites in Scotland

The site is only yards from a shingle beach and the sea. The toilets are clean and tidy. Lots to see on Kintyre and the Mull. Good local restaurants. Local cafe. Local well stocked shop. Tesco's is in Campbeltown, about 15 miles away. Colin (site owner) is only to happy to assit with any information you need. The site as Wi-Fi. We highly recommend this site. We have already booked for next year.

Worth every bump along The Long and Winding Road

Some places get into your soul and call you back year after year. Carradale is one of them. Everything you need is there, if you like scenery, walking, wildlife, cycling, fishing, boating.. unless you like shopping. There's only one in the village. Relax and feel the stress slip away in the laid back atmosphere promoted by Colin, the site owner, the water supply (you'll know what I mean when you fill your aquaroll up for the first time), the woodland trails, the roads.... Oh yes. The roads.  When you get through Tarbet and onto the Kintyre peninsula (it's the nearest thing to an island there is without actually being one) you have the choice of an hour and a half drive round Campbelltown and back up the east side, or braving the single track boneshaker which takes half the time but includes some steep single track hills with sharp bends. You takes your choice - the caravan club states the short route is not suitable for caravans. Carradale Bay is great. Great for kids. Great for dogs. Great for everyone.  Be warned though. This place is addictive.

Remote but beautiful

Our first trip of the 2015 season took us to this very pleasant and quiet site. We had the good fortune to enjoy wonderful weather and arrived just after the main Easter weekend. The remote situation of the site means the road leading to it from Campbeltown is both very scenic but also testing for the outfit. Be sure to follow the directions in the site directory as the other approach roads are even more difficult! The site itself had just opened for the season and we stayed for 5 nights. We had a lovely pitch looking towards Arran, and there are others overlooking the beach itself. Wherever you pitch the site is tranquil and very peaceful. The toilet block is not quite the club standard, but clean and well managed, although unheated. The electrical connections are limited to 6 amps, so we used gas heating to avoid the inevitable tripping of the breakers.  You need bio toilet fluids, to avoid disturbing the workings of the septic tank at the site.  Around the site there are many walks and a number of hotels and cafes. The best of these is the Glen, just at the crossroads as you arrive at the site entrance. Also here is a Cafe (Network Centre) with bike hire. Not recommended is the Carradale Hotel, which seemed to be rather busy and understaffed when we called for dinner. All the other places we tried in the area were at least good and some cases excellent. The people of the area are very friendly and welcoming, I needed to buy a tool during the visit and was given the best help in the many places I had to call to find it.  You will enjoy your visit to this site and this part of the world. Highly recommended for those who tow with confidence!
