Good for families

So nice I am going back!

I went to Carnon Downs early March 23 to get the motorhome up and running again after winter, it's only 60 miles from where I live. It is such a lovely site, right next to the A39 so very easy access (there is a little road noise but it's not too bad). It was only partially open as obviously there aren't many people in Cornwall in March! Pitches are spacious and pretty much flat, with picnic tables. In the toilet block you get your own washroom with shower, basin and loo, all very clean and tidy, plus there's dishwashing and laundry facilities and very hot water. Grounds very well-maintained, lots of bird life. Small shop and bar with limited opening at this time of year. Staff are just lovely, all local people and very helpful. In Carnon Downs itself, about 10 minutes' walk from the site, is a Spar convenience store with a local butcher counter, so great for top-ups, papers, pain au chocolat, whatever! There's also a Beefeater that was showing the 6 Nations just over the other side of the roundabout. Bus stop to Falmouth, Helston, Lizard at the site entrance, and in the other direction to Truro, Newquay etc on the other side of the roundabout, buses every 30 minutes Mon-Sat, every hour Sundays. There are lots and lots of walks from the site - Feock, Devoran (check out the Old Quay pub), Restronguet - there's a booklet you can borrow from reception. Also there's Sustrans route 3 cycle route, head to Bissoe then you can cycle the Mineral Tramway all the way to Portreath. Alternatively head down to the King Harry Ferry about 4 miles away and head over to the Roseland. I only stayed 3 nights but am going back next week to explore some more!!
