Perfect for what we wanted

Having now visited this site for many years it is exactly what we wanted as we needed to get away. This site was conveniently located and if you're prepared to do a little walking there is plenty to see and do. The woodland walk into town is around 25-35 minutes down hill (slightly longer back) with a refreshing stop at the Pooles Cavern coffee shop. If you're into cycling, you need to be fit, but the site offers many access points for road and mountain bike routes. Whilst phone signal is poor (that's a good thing) the TV from within the van worked fine without the need to connect to the pillar (just need to point the aerial in the right direction) The site was extremely well maintained and the facilities were second to none. On the upside (depending on your point of view) there are no children play areas. That said if your into kite flying the walk up to Solomon's Temple would provide some excellent opportunities. We were there during lambing so dogs need to be well controlled up the hills but can run amok in the woods. The evening and dawn chorus of jackdaws nesting in the quarry make a pleasant change to the hustle and bustle of daily life. The quarry wall is illuminated and well worth just siting out and chilling in the evening. Having read one of the less positive reviews, you need to do your homework when visiting any site, if you do then you will not be disappointed when visiting this site as it is well worth it. JayTea
