There's always one
First time at Buxton and we will return. Fabulous location for wonderful country yomps and a good walk into Buxton. We cannot comment on the facilities as we were self-contained and the only things open were toilets and washing up area. The site has lovely touches like insect houses, a help yourself herb garden, protected wildlife areas, and feels very open and spacious despite the large 'cliff' faces. The little on site shop was well-stocked with essentials and edible treats such as pies, pastries, clotted cream.
The only slight sticking point was the length of time it took to process each arrival, which created a long traffic queue of folk wanting to get set up and make a cuppa. It took over a hour for some vehicles to get access to the site. We also think that the site could benefit from an additional amenities block as some pitches involved quite a walk to the one block on site.
Covid measures were in place, but that's when there's always one who thinks they are above such things and a global killer virus won't get them, nor are they willing to protect the vulnerable. Washing up facilities were clearly labelled one person at a time and 99.9% of folk complied, waiting patiently outside until their turn. The one, pompous, 'rules don't apply to me' woman came in, maskless, and was courteously and politely reminded of the measures in place, but apparently 'I won't be long' is a good-enough excuse. This is not a criticism of the site and the wardens who were doing their best to adhere to the welfare measures for the many.
We had to use our ramps to get a level pitch. As the site is located in a former quarry and is surrounded by high rocks, we found internet and mobile signals were very weak indeed, however we managed to get a strong TV reception. The rooks swooping high above the site kept us entertained.
