For many, this may be the ideal getaway. The site wardens are (as I have invariably found) were warmly welcoming and efficient. Five ticks for them - no messing.

The facilities (as others have intimated) are rather dated but scrupulously clean. The showers were seriously lacking in water pressure (more so in the Ladies than the Gents, I think). There were notices about the lack of electrical power. Still, that's nothing that the wardens can deal with. All of this seems to be down to uncertainty about the lease and whether it is viable for the Club to sink money into the site.

My day job means that wherever I go, I need to stay in internet contact - so the WiFi on a site is crucial to me. The Club WiFi system here is, simply, not fit for purpose. Any connection was painfully slow and collecting email was generally impossible.  I'm well used to the CC WiFi system but have never known it to be as poor as this. I have not only wasted my money on this - we have also had to spend significant amounts of our holiday time patronising cafes and bars in Buxton simply so that I can keep in touch. The fact that, in the bottom of a quarry, there was no mobile signal either simply made matters worse.

It doesn't happen very often, but I have to say that this is a site we'll not be coming back to DESPITE all of the attractions of Buxton and the surrounding area.

(Oh, yes... If there is any likelihood of serious torrential rain like we had one day, do avoid Pitch 108 - it fills up with water!)
