Our Visit to the Buxton Site
My wife & I have just returned from a 14 night stay at this site & thoroughly enjoyed the whole holiday. All four wardens were very pleasant, helpful & worked hard to keep the site immaculate. The facilities were always spotlessly clean & functional, but as others have said, maybe a little tired. Hopefully they are not too far down the Club's list for a refurb. Just be aware that the facilities are a long walk from the pitches at the north end of the site & involve walking up & down slopes.
There is an abundance of wildlife on & around the site, ranging from a variety of birds, including owls & hawks, together with rabbits to watch while enjoying a beer sitting outside your van.
The site is positioned well for visiting places of interest in & around the National Park. We used the 'things to do nearby' list on the CC website & found something to do every day. The furthest we traveled to visit an attraction was a 40 mile round trip. Most places we visited were actually closer than this. A visit to the town of Buxton is a must, with so many interesting buildings and a superb park.
If you plan to visit the village of Castleton there is an opportunity for you to park for free. In the village is hotel called the Peak Hotel and opposite is a public pay & display car park which is actually owned by the hotel. If you spend £10+ on food & drink in the hotel they refund your parking charges. We ate there twice at lunchtime during our stay & both times we found the food to be very good & not too expensive.
We would highly recommend this site.
