A Return to Buxton
It is over 10 years since we visited Buxton. It was always a very pleasant site set in old quarry above Buxton. At 400 metres, I think the highest site on the network. The only reason we stopped visiting was because we retired and could holiday mid week / off peak. Buxton was and is much easier to get into at weekends than the likes of Chatsworth or Castleton. Since our last visit the site has been refurbished. This included the addition of service pitches, a new larger amenities block and a drive over MH grid. One deletion though was the play area, which is now service pitches.
The site is very well presented by the wardens with many little set pieces that will delight the kids. Biodiversity is also well catered for with bug hotels and small areas left unmown.
Many walks are available direct from the site. Solomons temple provides amazing views over Buxton and the surrounding area and takes about 20 minutes to reach. Buxton itself can be walked into through the woods in about 30 minutes, although the path is fairly steep and has certainly got longer and steeper in an upward direction in the last 10 years.😂 The details of a reasonably priced taxi are provided in case the legs are not willing.
Most freeview channels are available if you connect to the TV port on the EHU bollard. At the top of the site on pitch 6, we were able to make calls on O2 and EE, although 3 / 4G was variable from passable to non existent. Site WiFi was OK for emails and browsing, although the site was nowhere near full.
It certainly won't be another 10 years before we return.
