WALKING SHOES ON/LEAVE THE CAR!
Stayed here as a convenience to an event I was attending - but extended my stay as really liked it. The juxaposition of urban life and the West Pennine hills was interesting. I have a dog - and love to walk. For three days I took off on walks from the site - not needing the car. On days when I got the car out - just a few miles - and I could access the moors and quite remote landscapes. You can also travel out by train and [if you wanted to] walk back - or visa versa. The East Lancs railway runs behind the site - with a station adjacent.
Just outside the site is a great coffee shop - The Lampost - cooked breakfasts; lunches [homemade soups are delicious]; wonderful homemade cakes cooked within a mile of the site; and homemade doggy cakes!! Wonderful coffee also.
The site was clean; well maintained - and the staff very helpful and welcoming. And as the site is plonk in Burrs Country Park - you have immediate access to dog walk areas - there's the river and fishing lakes - I thought it was a really nice spot and I had a really relaxing and interesting stay. I'll certainly return for more exploring.
