Superb site, we will return!
We were booked here for 3 nights, we arrived just as the light was fading so it was a lovely welcome to see all the festive lights and the beautifully lit Christmas tree. Check in was swift and we were told to pick any white marked pitch. We chose pitch 64 which was pretty central. We had a few issues with EHU but this was quickly resolved after hubby spoke to reception staff.
We'd planned to visit Bury on our first day which was a 20 minute walk into the town centre via road onto footpath, information on this route is in your welcome leaflet.
Before we left is was lovely to see the East Lancs Railway steam trains passing with the 'Santa Specials'. We would have booked a trip on the trains but the normal timetable was not in use to accomodate Father Christmas, but it's something we'll do on return visits!
Bury is a lovely town with plenty of shops etc and Bury market is amazing! Lots of free samples offered in the food hall, bought some delicious cheeses and the obligatory black puddings! Due to the amount of shopping and as it was going dark, we opted to get the B1 bus from the interchange which dropped us about a 5 minute walk from the site. The bus does turn off into a housing estate so be aware where you need to get off!
The Brown Cow just at the entrance to the site is a lovely quiant old fashioned pub and we did have a few drinks in there. We also had Sunday lunch but we weren't impressed by the food.
There's also a coffee shop which each morning had Carol singers outside which was lovely. When we left on the Monday the coffee shop seemed closed.
Lots of walks on your doorstep through Burrs Counrty Park, we did the Irwell sculpture trail which was brilliant along the river and up past the weir. We also walked up to the station which is at the back of the site, just as Santa's train came through, so it was lovely to get and wave and see all the families with their Christmas hats on having fun!
This site is very well laid out, all the staff we met were extremely friendly. The tiolets/showers were very clean, though I felt the shower water was a bit cool. All toilet blocks are closed for cleaning between 10.30 & 12, but a good addition was the 'spare' toilet while this was happening. We've been to many sites where there were no extra facilities while cleaning took place.
This is a site we'll definitely return to maybe in the summer months and make sure we enjoy the steam train.
