Good for families

Not really for us.

We usually stay at more rural club sites but friends had recommended this site, so we decided to give it a try. For us, the site is a bit too 'urban' as you literally reach the site through a large housing estate. I know that many visitors probably stay here because of the easy access to Manchester for shopping or Bury Market etc but if you want country walks, you are limited to Burrs Country Park which is very good , although rather wet & soggy when we were there. The steam trains at the bottom of the site were a novelty & we didn't mind the noise from that plus nearby Ransbottom was pleasant to wander around for the afternoon. It was really our own fault for choosing a site that didn't really meet our requirements ( & shows that you really shouldn't rely on what friends say but go with your own instincts!) But now to the real bugbear! The wardens were lovely but something really ought to be done about those late departures!!! We have been to sites where early arrivals are the problem but here, we waited behind a camper van till 12.00 then started down the narrow cobbled road. Disaster!! The camper got through but we ended up having to reverse on the bridge (with another caravan behind us - Agh!) then somehow back onto a grass verge to let the late departers through. I counted 12 units; How selfish!!! I'm afraid the leaving time needs to be altered to 11.00 am because of these few self-centred campers! What a shame for an otherwise well run site.
