Good for families

Nice site, but didn’t work for us.

This was our first visit to Burrs. We were looking for a stopover travelling south from Scotland and wanted to try somewhere new. Let me be clear that there is absolutely nothing wrong with the site. It is well maintained by friendly and helpful wardens. It has a surprisingly rural feel given its urban setting, plus it has steam trains running past the site. However, for us it is too far away, and awkward to get from the M6, when travelling from the north to use as a stopover. There are more convenient options. Reviews are always subjective, aren’t they? But we didn’t find much of interest in the area, apart from the steam railway. Burrs Country Park is pleasant enough for a gentle walk, but nothing to write home about. Bury has plenty of amenities, but its charms were lost on us. It just seemed to be another busy town, with nothing of great interest. I know people rave about the indoor market, but the last thing we want to do on holiday is go shopping. In the past three months we have stayed on twelve sites in The Highlands, the East Coast of Scotland, the Lake District and the Cotswolds. I’m afraid if we were rating theses sites, Burrs would be number twelve. Again, nothing wrong with the site itself, the area just doesn’t have what we’re looking for. I am sure for many they will have a perfectly pleasant stay.
