We arrived on a site last year and picked our pitch, out of those with out any body on,i got the C/Van set up while OH went to the office via the toilets, only to find that a motor caravan had gone out for the day, without leaving a "in use marker"as is advised, the "Young Wardens" said they would advise the said members to return barrier card for the pitch we were set up on and they would have pitch else where as it was their fault

Here’s an extract from the site rules -
Rule 4g. If you have a motorhome and you're leaving the site for a while, save your pitch by marking it as occupied.
At the end of the day, I don’t feel it was worth making a song and dance about for just one night but if Brinkley feels hard done by, he/she should take the matter up with the club as a site review isn’t the appropriate place to report it.

No sympathy. When we find the pitch that suits us, the first thing we do is set the van up then I walk along to the office to give the warden the pitch number. I'd not be a happy camper if I was then told the non marked pitch we are now settled onto was, in fact, not vacant. Morale of the story.......leave a pitch marker.

Perhaps when a motor caravan arrives on a site the occupants should be issued with some sort of sign for the pitch as well as the barrier device? This could be as simple as an attachment for the pitch "peg". A similar attachment (perhaps in a different colour) could be used to signal a pitch being reserved for the later arrival of a caravanner who needed special consideration because of a disability.
The caravanner could then take all their loose equipment with them without fear of it being missing completely or placed elsewhere on their return.
On all the Club sites I have visited over the years the Wardens have always been able to tell me on enquiry which pitches are already taken by "absent friends", but my suggestion would help those who do not ask.

The motorhome leaves site on last day at 12 o'clock but the sign is still on the pitch. Is the warden to go running around the site bringing in signs? Seems a bit of a trial to me.

I would not have thought to ask. There is a pitch, it's empty so I will take it.

So when one arrives at a pitch what indication tells us it is not occupied and ripe for choosing? After all, in your handbook it explicitly advises you to leave notification of occupancy on chosen pitch to eliminate this happening. You can purchase a sign from the club or, like us, we made our own. It is our responsibility to indicate occupancy to those who follow and nothing to do with the wardens who have an almost impossible task to rectify your mistake given the written etiquette associated with pitch occupancy. Young or old we all live and learn, nothing to do with age and I trust this is no exception.

Beware of the 'younger' wardens
I find this heading/ statement rude. Younger than 25, 35, 45, 55.......? Comparison made to what 'older' age? And why on earth should that be of any relevance. The wardens are all adults for goodness sake.
To all wardens, irrespective of age, Thank You and keep remembering you can't please everyone.
