A pleasant surprise
"What on earth have you brought me here for" exclaimed my wife as we drove towards the site after exiting J2 of the M66. I have to say the surroundings of Bury did not bode well for the camp site, but once we arrived at Burrs our hearts were lifted by a lovely site well spread out and to my joy a grass pitch. The warden was most helpful when I asked for a good one that was close to the railway line, Pitch 52 is grass and is just opposite the water supply. There are some nice walks along the river and of course the East Lancs Railway where you can use your Caravan Club voucher and get 2 for 1 on travel saving between £8 and £14:50 depending on what ticket you buy. There is an Aldi not far from the site which is hidden a little, but is right by the B&Q store on the left as you come up to Woodhill Road. The approach to the site is on cobbles with several pot holes and a narrow single lane bridge so take care. There is a pub, The Brown Cow, virtually on site but we did not use it.
