Excellent Site in Stunning Location.
For as long as I can recall, we have wanted a caravan stay at Bunree, and having finally achieved it, I have to say how well it lived up to expectation, and how much we are looking forward to returning. The site is in a quite breath-taking location, right on the shores of Loch Linnhe, just south of Fort William. Access is straightforward from the A82, making it easy to visit Fort William, or perhaps beyond to Skye or nearby Glencoe. Quite a narrow access road takes outfits past residential properties, but an efficient traffic lights system ensures there is no possibility of meeting anyone coming in the opposite direction. The welcome at Reception was warm and helpful, and provided information about the site itself and places or attractions nearby. This a hugely popular site, for good reason, so an arrival earlier in the day should ensure a choice of pitch - and what a choicer there is. There are non-awning pitches right by the side of the loch, located there so that views of the scenery are not restricted, and these are superb. However, all other pitches are of a very good standard spacious, well-maintained and generally pretty level, with many at the lower end of the site having quite stunning views. Water, power and refuse disposal are all within easy reach for all. The shower/toilet block is excellent, more than adequate for the numbers and maintained and cleaned to a very high standard. Fort William and Glencoe are just a short drive away, and going further afield is easy. A call into the Commando Memorial on the hillside above Spean Bridge is thought-provoking, and travelling onwards to Inverness and its attractions is easy and enjoyable. Just two slightly negative thoughts occur to me, which were both observed at Bunree, but have also been noted on other sites. Sadly, we regularly had the inconsiderate small minority of dog owners who walked their dogs on grassed areas between pitches, allowing them to urinate at will, even on the edges of pitches close to caravans or awnings. One even did so on the wheel of my car as I was unloading it on our pitch. I like dogs, I have had dogs, so please, if you are one of that small minority allowing your dog to do this, please show greater courtesy and consideration for others. The other practice observed at Bunree, and also elsewhere, is that some members seem to have difficulty in adhering to the 5 mph speed limit on sites. I am not thinking of those who might occasionally creep up towards 10 mph or so, but those who are clearly driving somewhere between 15 -20 mph. Again, for the safety and enjoyment of all using the sites, please show greater consideration as you drive around. Despite these two observations, we had a fabulous stay at Bunree, which because of the site itself, its stunning location and proximity to so many other places, offers a great experience to members. We simply can't wait to return..
