Good for families

Great site but access issues for larger outfits

We visited this site in September 2018 on the way north on our journey around the NC500. Having read the caravan club directions we were looking for a Caravan Club sign just after Brora, however we missed the turn as there is a brown ‘generic’ caravan and camping sign and a sign for Green Park camping which is another private site nearby. We carried on , then realising that that must be where it was. Further ahead there was a lay-by which enabled us to turn around. We returned to the original turning and entered the road, ready for the narrow bridge which we had read about. However on entering the bridge which realised it was just too tight for us. We are a wider van at 8 ft across and 8.13 meters long and you enter the bridge from a left hand turn. There was no way we were crossing whilst hitched up without causing damage. I took the van off the back, moved the car and took the van across on the mover. Hitched again. We carried on the short distance to site. The wardens were lovely and the site itself is fantastic with access to a wonderful beach. We discovered during our stay that there was another way off site via Dalchalm which the club directions say to ignore. This means crossing a railway crossing which has a sign saying risk of ‘bottoming out’ however having weighed up the pros and cons I decided to take the Dalchalm route rather than face the bridge again. We left departed from site and crossed the crossing without difficulty and our van does have a very low spare wheel carrier on it. I have since learned that the reason folk are discouraged from using the Dalchalm route may be political as the residents of the few houses along the road don’t like caravans using the road and have on occasions allowed the white painted stones to move closer to the enge of the road to discourage the road being used. This is a fantastic site and if you are a smaller outfit, then it’s great place to be. But if you are a larger outfit, there is only one route to take. Dalchalm.

Comment from the Club:

Many thanks for your review and we are so pleased you found the site fantastic and the staff friendly. We are sorry you had difficulties accessing the site. I have forwarded your feedback to the Regional Manager regarding the signage and we will see if this can be improved in the future. Unfortunately the bridge is narrow and we do make members aware of this. Thank you again for your review and we hope you come back to Brora again soon.

Reference comment from the club" unfortunately the bridge is narrow and we make members aware of this".What is not mentioned,is its also on a bend making it challenging for larger outfits. On the plus side its a great location.
