A Great Little Site
We have recently returned from a tour and Bromyard was our last stop. It was our first visit and certainly won't be our last, as the team, Sandra and Shaun, that run it are fantastic wardens and for them nothing is too much trouble and they were always on hand to offer advice and support even after 6pm when they were supposedly not meant to be on duty. Although the facilities on this site are limited we gave it a score of 4 * because that includes cleanliness and the place was spotless. The site is well located bordering Herefordshire, Shropshire and Warwickshire meaning that there is easy access to many places and nearby you are just spoilt for choice with many footpaths on the doorstep. The Fountain in Tenbury Wells offers an extensive menu for a reasonable price and their Steak and Ale Pie is fantastic. The Royal Oak on the A6 does a good carvary with an over 65s menu, which includes a dessert for £13.50 (April 2024). I've said it's good for families and that is because there is a lot to do in the locale but it's important to note it doesn't have a play area, so if that's important this is not the site for you. It's right on the A6 but we found we didn't hear the traffic much at all and it's certainly a peaceful place with lots of bird life to observe. If there are any criticisms of the site I think this sits with the club. The road up to the upper pitches really needs resurfacing, as it is quite slippy. Speaking to the wardens I understand the road will be cleaned and some of the larger holes fixed but it should be resurfaced imo. A dog wash would be a nice addition, as Bromyard Downs is quite muddy after all the rain - again a bit more investment from the club and maybe a return to the wardens being available until 8pm, which, I believe, is the norm for larger sites.
