Nice site, wrong location.
Just returned from 6 nights at Brighton Club site. Being formerly from Sussex, , I have walked past this site many times. Now living in Somerset it seemed the perfect place to stay when visiting family and friends in Sussex. The site is lovely and well laid out. The staff are the friendliest I have come across. We were greeted with a lovely smiley lady, even though they were very busy. They were still smiling the next day despite there being a long queue of arrivals before the indicated arrival time.. they definitely had their work cut out! The facilities are spotless as usual and our pitch was up on the top level in a quiet spot. The downside is the approach road. This is outside the Club’s control, but could be a big ‘put off’ as a first impression. The Travellers have been there for years, so was not a surprise to me. There actually wasn’t any there this time anyway apart from a couple of seemingly derelict caravans quite near to the site entrance. Half way through the week the council actually put a notice of eviction on them. The worst thing is the huge potholes. Great care is needed with a Motorhome or towing a caravan. We invited a couple of friends to visit for coffee. They are club members and only live in Burgess Hill. However, when asked we were told they would have to park in that lane. As it was too far for them to walk from there to our pitch, they did not come. I tried to speak to the staff about this, but they were very busy and I didn’t want to bother them. It is also quite a long way to walk to the Marina for shops, cafes and buses into Brighton and beyond. We don’t mind walking, but after doing an 8 mile organised walk on one day, I really didn’t want to have to walk into the Marina (about 25 minutes walk) just to get dinner. We had intended to use buses as there are plenty to everywhere, but ended up walking up and down that approach road several times, just to get anywhere and had to take the Motorhome off site when we had not planned to.
Overall it’s a nice site, but I don’t think we will stay again, purely as the position isn’t brilliant.
