Good for families

Can we have some money spent on the needs of traditional members please?

We use this site often because of family commitments in the area, and we have seen some changes over the years. The site is always busy and is definitely not what I would regard as a peaceful site, but we didn't experience any really rowdy behaviour or other disturbances during our stay. We enjoyed a first class reception from Debbie and Nick in the office, all smiles, helpful advice and a really warm welcome. Where things went wrong was the condition of the pitch. I am not exaggerating when I say it was impossible to get steel rock pegs into the ground using a 4lb club hammer, so I went to B&Q and bought a SDS drill in order to penetrate the concrete that lies a couple of inches under the stones. What irritates me is that the club has known about this problem for some time and the only response has been to change some awning pitches to non-awning because it's impossible to get pegs into the ground. Meanwhile, money has been found to convert two grass pitches to hard-standings in order to accommodate two over-priced Airstreams, lay new roadways at the top of the site to service the ten or so new glamping pods that have been built, etc etc, but there's no cash to dig up and re-surface the hard-standings for the benefit of us long-standing traditional caravanners. I've been paying my membership fees and site fees for over 30 years and I feel that the club now regards me as a dinosaur while spending money on "Experience Freedom" projects. Come on Caravan Club, let's try looking after those of us that still want to experience our freedom in the traditional way.

Surely you could keep the separation by siting the van on the pitch so that the awning can sit on the grass or is that simplistic?

We only ever use a porch awning (if at all) so I guess that makes us a semi traditional member! laughing

I thought it was a good thing that the club was looking to the future - you know, none of this "we've always done things this way" claptrap! surprised

I would have thought the OP has made his position quite clear, he wants to take a touring caravant to a club site and be able to erect an awning but feels investment priorities are preventing this. I don't find this view  at odds with the word traditional.

I would say totally at odds, perhaps are you confusing traditional for average, or the mode

A tradition belongs to an individual or an organisation. It is a certain way of doing something that has been done in the past.

Now some individuals do put up awnings some do not so therefore you cannot say it is a tradition of caravaners to put up an awning any more than you can say it is traditional not to put one up, or it is traditional to tour over there? (it is for you of course)

Like others I don't know what a traditional caravaner is, we are all different

It is certainly not traditional to need a breaker to erect an awning

Thanks for the interesting lecture, could that possibly have come from a dictionarywink

My pleasure David.  Always ready to educate those in need🙂

No - all my own work. Dictionaries give definitions not detailed explanations.
