Another Nice site BUT
This was the second time of camping here and although the welcome seemed much friendlier than previous the facilities were still lacking. Being a disabled pensioner I find somethings more difficult than others. I requested a pitch for an awning and near facilities. I was indeed well placed for the facilities, right opposite in fact, but pitching the awning was quite something else. Being on hardstanding normal pegs are totally insufficient, I had to go down the coast a bit and get some rock pegs (no caravan accessory shops actually in Brighton). Some went in easier than others but you do need a steel claw hammer or you will never get them out, Some wouldn't go in at all and bent despite being extra strong, even after drilling holes with a masonary drill. It can also be a bit windy so awning damage can occur. I found the sanitary facilities sadly lacking as there were no designated disabled facilities. The only disabled concession in the toilet/shower block were a few grab rails on the wall but not much good if you cannot access the toilet/shower cubicles with your wheelchair or need a bit more room than your average cubicle allows.
The access road is a bit potholed and long but well placed for getting out and about and shops are virtually on the doorstep as is the hospital and seafront. The beach can get a bit rough as I found out when two thugs decided I was ripe for assaulting while sitting minding my own business.
The site itself is reasonably quiet and kept very clean & tidy. There is a pizza van and a fish & chip van that visit during the week which makes a change from cooking. It is a nice area and plenty of coast to see, and countryside. Sheffield Park Estate in Uckfield is a very pleasant NT garden to visit, especially in April/May for the rhododendrons of which there are many & autumn when the trees are changing colour. Worth spending a few hours, plenty of trees to shelter under if it rains, and a nice cafe.
