Shame about the building work

We have stayed at the Brighton site for the last 5 years and from last year twice a year, one week in the summer and a week after Boxing day, we cant fault the site or the wardens, but our last weeks stay from Saturday 2nd July was slightly ruined buy the constant building work going on in the college, we found it started at 8am and was constant most of the day during the week, its a shame as its such a lovely site, our daughter and granddaughter came down for a visit on the Saturday, I took her to the park and it was shut, when I asked the wardens they said it was shut as a piece of equipment was broken, so they shut the whole park, so if you have children are planning to stay over the summer school holidays it might pay to ring the site to see if the play park is open. hopefully when we go back after Christmas the building work will be completed, but apart from the building noise its still one of our favourite sites.

Large site no character

Arrived for 3 night stay. Allocated a pitch far end of the site. Very open , so no respite from the wind and rain . Building work going on behind the site so drilling and general construction noise from 7.30 onwards . They say a 10 min.walk to bus stop but more like 20 very tedious . We didn't have a car so used public transport all the time . The buses were excellent once you got to them . Not a site we would return to . Bit like a parking lot for caravans and motor homes.

Recent stay

This was our 2nd stop on our south coast tour. The site was very busy on our arrival and we ended up on the higher part of the site which was a small trek to the toilet block which were kept very clean. We spent 4 nights here as we wanted to have a look around Brighton. The bus stop is about 10 minutes from the the site near the lidl buses left every 6 minutes to Brighton the marina is close by with its shops cinema and restaurants. There is a bit of noise from the building site during the day otherwise a quite sitems. Would we return certainly. Next stop the Centary site in the New Forest hope the weather improves.

Good Touring Base

An excellent city site with an out of town feel. The site is well managed and all facilities are spotlessly maintained. There is a small park suitable for younger children. Pitches are spacious with easy access. HOWEVER, DO NOT TRY TO ERECT AN AWNING WITHOUT TESTING THE GROUND. Some pitches will not allow rock pegs to be driven in more than 2 or 3 inches. We were unable to erect our awning - first time in 34 years. The wardens are aware of this issue and the Club needs to address the problem. Discount supermarkets and others are within a mile of the site. Brighton's West Marina is within 20 minutes walking or five minute drive. Fuel, shops and supermarkets are accommodated within a brutal concrete environment. However, the seaward side of the marina is quite attractive and has a wide range of restaurants. I will use this site again.

Don't believe everything.

Just returned home from this site which we found to be extremely well maintained from the pitches to the toilet block. The team worked tirelessly especially as the storms hit pretty bad. Site traffic was slow and tolerant of pedestrians and no noise other than nearby building works. The site drained super quick from many torrential downpours. Yes it's not a pleasant walk to the bus stops which serve most parts of town every six minutes or the marina but hardly the fault of the site managers. The Whitehawk bus service was brilliant and the stop was convenient for shopping at the Coop or Lidl. Services from Brighton to Eastbourne and to Worthing are clearly marked at the never ending bus stops. Use North St for the Lanes and Churchill Sq for interouts. So had a great time regardless of the weather

Ups - and Downs

This was our first visit to Brighton CC and we came away with mixed feelings after our three night stay. Positives first - quite well placed for Brighton Marina, close to some open spaces for dog walking as there's no dog walk, friendly wardens and a tidy and clean site - including the toilet block next to us. Fully serviced pitches are in general so much easier and we wish there were more of them generally. BUT - negatives. The much publicised walk to Brighton Marina would be fine but much of that walk is unattractive and the Marina itself is shabby, fronted by a huge ASDA car park, and somewhat disappointing. The very front "Boardwalk" section is the place to aim for - some very nice restaurants overlooking the Marina itself - but in general it looked and largely felt dated. It is a VERY long walk into the Lanes area of Brighton, which we'd been told was worth a look, although in our experience it seemed to mainly consist of jewellers. The Seafront was attractive but short of having a drink in a hotel, we were disappointed at the lack of bars along it. The site - we have NEVER seen so many cars exceeding the 5mph limit - in fact we found sitting outside the van quite daunting as several went past us at 20mph or more DESPITE the speed bumps! That was true too of the rather younger users of the Camping pitches (we'd never seen a CC site with them before) - four of whom obviously thought it would be fun at dusk to drive out at speed to the gate. Somebody is going to get hurt if this isn't dealt with - if we'd had kids, I wouldn't have let them play off the pitch. Brighton seafront has NO signs about dogs and thus we took ours out to paddle - and were told by an officious lifeguard that it wasn't allowed - in fact, no such authority is in place that we could see and if the Town Council want to ban dogs, they need to put up signs to say so. To summarise - we liked the site well enough, the close proximity to Brighton is obviously a draw for motor-homers, and there were a lot of foreign visitors which is nice to see, and it's tidy and well kept. BUT - would we return? - the jury is out on that.

Unusual

We almost exclusively use Club sites, this one was different. It is a very large site, the facilities are well maintained and the wardens were charming. However, we booked a fully serviced pitch and they were all adjacent to the toilet block and opposite the children's play area, a bit noisy. All the fully serviced pitches were occupied by childless couples which maybe indicates there normal usage. Every day rigs were allowed on before 12.00, and there were tents allowed onto standard pitches. Not something we've experienced before. There was no time limit to drive back onto the site in the evening, meaning vehicles were driving on well into the night. Having said all that we enjoyed our stay once we had got used to the way it was. It was just different to most other Club sites we have visited. The Marina was disappointing, Brighton was buzzing. Don't know if we'll go again.

Great family site

We have just returned from the Brighton site after not going for the last couple of years. The access road was empty on arrival and departure which is as it should have been before. The wardens were very polite and helpful and we did not notice any over use of machinery, but we were out and about most days. This is a family site and quite large so I did not expect it to be overly quiet especially at half term. We will definitely return.

Popular and pricey

This is obviously a flagship site. It is located just a mile from the Marina and two miles from the centre of Brighton. In good weather this is a great base to enjoy Brighton Beach (all pebbles) and the town itself. There is a huge range of entertainment, shopping, eating etc on offer in Brighton and Hove. The Downs are also on your doorstep. The site however is generally very full and very crowded. It is also the venue for much Tractor driving, lawn mowing, bike and skater riding. The toilet blocks were both closed for longer than stated, but this may be to cope with the amount of people on site. If you are happy with lots of people being busy lots of the time, you will be ok here. If you want to sit out and relax then this may not be the site to choose.

Too Noisy!!

We have been to this site many times in the past, and found it to be peaceful and relaxing and in an excellent location. Unfortunately, this time, it wasn't a good experience as the wardens seem to have changed and whilst pleasant and helpful, they have changed their working patterns and the site was extremely noisy due their constant use of the tractor/lawnmowers used for maintaining the site. Whilst we appreciate that maintainance needs to take place, the vehicles and machinery they use for 5+ hours a day, everyday drove us mad as they are very loud. We never experienced this type of noise before, and maybe the other wardens in previous years used these vehicles for shorter periods of time each day. Also whereas before the toilet blocks were closed an hour day for each section, first the ladies then the gents this time they closed the entire block for 2 hours everyday! This site is in an excellent location with the Marina within walking distance and also the bus to Brighton itself, but the maintenance noise was too loud this time and spoilt our weekend, wasn't at all relaxing. Not sure we will be back next year.
