Good for families

Absolutely never again

Pitch was steep, my rear caravan steadies hardly down, front ones almost at full. Some motorhomes were extremely sloped. Other pitches looked very flat. We were told to remove splitter from hook-up, CAMC rules. Allowed at all sites I’ve stayed at before, non club sites though. I explained it powered an awning fridge (baby food) via a dedicated RCD block. I couldn’t fit baby food in caravan fridge or external fridge in the van as space needed for family to sleep & move. So trailed a 3m extension cable across bed, past baby, out window & plugged fridge in. This the only socket usable as I use the other awning side socket for CPAP. I asked site manager if the dangling cable was now acceptable. Even though it’s using same power & now more likely to “trip the site” (his concern), he awkwardly agreed it was ‘better’. This needs readdressing given the safety features of camping hook-up extension leads. Went to the shop in the morning to buy bread but told “don’t sell bread as it goes off”. Wareham Forest 40 mins away had fresh baguettes, croissants & pain au chocolat delivered daily & sold out daily. Every site I’ve stayed at sells bread of some description. The showers/toilets are the worst I’ve ever used. 2 new bathrooms at the back of reception block, 1 of which was out of order our whole stay. A set of male & female toilet & shower blocks (school dormitory type) & a further set of 5 individual unisex shower/toilet rooms next to reception. I used the working bathroom & it was awful, the shower was stuck on one setting – burning hot. The shower tray filled with water almost immediately, so quick use if you cared about the floor or the next guest. Next 2 days I used the toilet/shower rooms at reception. These did let me shower in normal temperature, but the shower curtain let water flood the room. This, by the state of the whole area was the same for all rooms. Not only a hazard but also made sitting on the toilet some gymnastic challenge not to ruin legwear on the wet muddy floor (dirt brought in from guests using just the toilets). There was a mop in the hall but seemed no one used it, tbh it failed to mop sufficiently. I’ve just come back from Just So festival, 3 days, 5000 people & honestly, the toilets and showers were cleaner to use. My in-laws, members for 20 years, state ‘the club’ ensures an ‘expected standard’. I think the camc is like car insurance. Look elsewhere, you’ll realise you can get the same or better for less (Wareham was the same £ with stocked shop/pool/clean shower blocks/baby baths/forests/kids park/flat pitches/proper road access for example). Sites have websites, photos & reviews. One can check sites out before going. We stayed here only as in-laws were there (& they only use CAMC sites!). Paying over the odds for substandard facilities + derelict buildings held up by wooden struts, single wastewater drain & a chemical disposal without a flusher. It does make you wonder what you’re paying for…
