A very charming site

We needed a somewhere convenient for visting relatives in tbe area and so not bothered by some of the poor reviews. We were very pleasantly surprised by this charming and atrractive site. Yes it is a little cramped in places but the abundance of beautiful mature trees and hedges makes up for this and lends privacy. The facilities are fine and more than adequate and I felt a little sorry for the warden feeling she had to apologise for the site being "quirky".In my book quirky is good, it would be boring if every site was exactly the same as every other. I agree with other reviewers - don't overdo any upgrade. This site doesnt need more amenities- it's already got them, the beautiful Dorset countrysde and lovely riverside walks. Perfect.

Beautiful area

Was almost out off by some other reviews but found the site to be really lovely. Wardens very friendly, informative and chatty. Allocated a pitch which for us was very good. Although we didn’t have a dog, walked through dog walk to river, and across footpaths. Yes the showers and loos need a bit of an update but served their purpose. I have never had a problem with wardens on any site and sometimes wonder if the problem lies with the users of the sites.Again my main gripe is the speed some vehicles seem to need to travel at..what is the hurry? And people who don’t clean up after washing up etc, or picking up their dog poo. The wardens do a great job, lets help them out by being considerate of others. Good luck with the refurb.

Peaceful Location

Arrived at this site for a 3 night stay, wardens were very pleasant and informative, our pitch was lovely and was really peaceful, the mobile takeaway’s that come on site is a nice touch. Was told the site is due for a major refurbishment, would like to see more shower, and toilet facilities, more waste water and chemical toilet emptying around site. We really enjoyed our stay there and would definitely go back again.

Lovely site

This was a lovely site. Facilities were clean, staff were very friendly. Pitches were nicely segregated by bushes. We stayed in a motorhome in Aug 2021. The site is down a short drive off the main road so easy access. For cycling, it does mean you have to cycle about 0.5 mile until you can turn off to quiet, undulating country lanes, which bring you down to Bridport and then there is a cycle track down to West Bay

Unimpressed

After booking I was really looking forward to 5 nights away, after pulling onto the site first impressions was that it's a nice looking site that is not being used to its full potential, at lot more needs doing. The old outbuildings need converting into useful amenities. Definitely need more places to get rid of waste water, chemical points etc. The pitch we were allocated was inadequate and like someone else said the site didn't seem full? Our pitch would have been better used for a tent. Avoid pitch 40 is my advice. The dog walks were nice. It is not a peaceful site as stated at all. The food vendors that come onto the site is a nice touch especially when you've travelled a long way. The staff could really do with some customer service training. If you are looking for a very nice camc site use Seacroft in Cromer.

A Great Caravan Site

The reviews on here are really mixed and to be honest it put me off booking, however, I though that I would take a chance. This is a lovely caravan site and the staff are so polite and helpful. The location is slightly out of Bridport probably about a mile and a half. There are lovely walks in the area and the site is well worth exploring. We used the laundry a few times which was easy to do, there is a shop selling the basics and everything that a caravaner needs. They have a fish and chip van that visits and they were lovely!! They also have a Pizza night and a curry night. My advice is to ignore all of the negative comments, you can't please everyone!! Thank you for a lovely four night stay.

This site is not up to the required standars

Toilets old,not all working, on arrival i booked in, as i had booked only a week before all i could get was a standard pitch with no awning, i asked if there was any chance of having a awning pitch and was very surprised to be told that would help them out as they could re allocate my pitch,i was allocated a pitch as that is what they do, bit of a hobsons choice, i parked my unit onto the pitch and tried to get my awning out, the front of it was then touching the hedge so i could not get any pegs in so i asked them for another pitch, no not possible as we are full, i spent 5 nights there and at no point there was more than 60% full, so no awning was put up, to get water you had to stand in a mud bath as water was all over the place, only one chemical loo point, this site needs work on and i will not come back as for the price well over the top, this is the worst club site i have used and i have use a lot

Excellent site

We stayed here here in June 2021. After reading some of the reviews we did not know what to expect but was very pleasantly surprised by this site. It is in a lovely peaceful setting with a walk directly from the site surrounded by Fields. The access proved easier than anticipated as you can see if anything is coming the other way along the drive and pull in as necessary. Staff were extremely helpful and friendly. Our pitch was perfectly level. Takeaway vans visit the site. We took a car so you didn't have to rely on public transport in covid times. there is a bus service into town but I don't know how frequent it is and having a car certainly made a big difference in being able to explore the area. Lots to see within 10mile radius. The roads didn't feel that safe for bicycles. Had lovely meal in garden at local Pyemore Inn. There is space and some old buildings that could be developed as a clubhouse in the future (looks like it may have been in the past), but this would take quite a bit of investment and make the site noisier. Potential but already a nice site.

Absolutely never again

Pitch was steep, my rear caravan steadies hardly down, front ones almost at full. Some motorhomes were extremely sloped. Other pitches looked very flat. We were told to remove splitter from hook-up, CAMC rules. Allowed at all sites I’ve stayed at before, non club sites though. I explained it powered an awning fridge (baby food) via a dedicated RCD block. I couldn’t fit baby food in caravan fridge or external fridge in the van as space needed for family to sleep & move. So trailed a 3m extension cable across bed, past baby, out window & plugged fridge in. This the only socket usable as I use the other awning side socket for CPAP. I asked site manager if the dangling cable was now acceptable. Even though it’s using same power & now more likely to “trip the site” (his concern), he awkwardly agreed it was ‘better’. This needs readdressing given the safety features of camping hook-up extension leads. Went to the shop in the morning to buy bread but told “don’t sell bread as it goes off”. Wareham Forest 40 mins away had fresh baguettes, croissants & pain au chocolat delivered daily & sold out daily. Every site I’ve stayed at sells bread of some description. The showers/toilets are the worst I’ve ever used. 2 new bathrooms at the back of reception block, 1 of which was out of order our whole stay. A set of male & female toilet & shower blocks (school dormitory type) & a further set of 5 individual unisex shower/toilet rooms next to reception. I used the working bathroom & it was awful, the shower was stuck on one setting – burning hot. The shower tray filled with water almost immediately, so quick use if you cared about the floor or the next guest. Next 2 days I used the toilet/shower rooms at reception. These did let me shower in normal temperature, but the shower curtain let water flood the room. This, by the state of the whole area was the same for all rooms. Not only a hazard but also made sitting on the toilet some gymnastic challenge not to ruin legwear on the wet muddy floor (dirt brought in from guests using just the toilets). There was a mop in the hall but seemed no one used it, tbh it failed to mop sufficiently. I’ve just come back from Just So festival, 3 days, 5000 people & honestly, the toilets and showers were cleaner to use. My in-laws, members for 20 years, state ‘the club’ ensures an ‘expected standard’. I think the camc is like car insurance. Look elsewhere, you’ll realise you can get the same or better for less (Wareham was the same £ with stocked shop/pool/clean shower blocks/baby baths/forests/kids park/flat pitches/proper road access for example). Sites have websites, photos & reviews. One can check sites out before going. We stayed here only as in-laws were there (& they only use CAMC sites!). Paying over the odds for substandard facilities + derelict buildings held up by wooden struts, single wastewater drain & a chemical disposal without a flusher. It does make you wonder what you’re paying for…

Lovely site/location great walks for families and dogs but...Could be better!

We spent 5 days here, having secured a late deal? So was surprised on arrival there were a lot of empty pitches, visitors only stayed a couple of nights before moving on. The site easily accessible off a main road whihc is a plus and easy reach of Charmouth , Lyme regis. We were allocated a choice of two pitches, (not having a motor mover we pitched in one with a little more manoeuvrability) this seemed to be the situation on all grassed pitches as they are all lined with hedges. We felt that the hedges though a nice privacy feature contributed to the difficulty for those getting in and out of the site. Watching other visitors struggle pitching and unpitching shows the site design needs a rethink. Certanily leaving the site having to pass guests/children returning from using the facilities as they all used the same single track route out of the site? Why not create a path for guests so they are not walking on the road? The facilities were clean though the showers and the toilets need upgrading. The number of times you followed someone in the toilets to find the flush was inadequate. More areas for waste water, only situated at the entrance to the site?? The water supply having to lift the filled barrel off a high concrete pedastal? Not an easy task for anyone!! This review may seem a little negative we dont have any real complaints about the site and would certainly visit again, however, it looks tired, and needs investment to be better, the derlict barns could be converted into further amenities, removal of some of the hedges would allow visitors a better selection of pitches, (some next the to the woods for tents were lovely, and shame they were only allocated for tents but getting a caravan and car onto these pitches would be a nightmare, instead all the tourers were crammed on top of each other with little movement between pitches. The site was very quiet, lots of rabbits and wildlife to hear and see. The variety of food vendors that arrive on site was a nice addition after a long day site seeing. Lovely off lead dog walks for all across open fields. The wardens very busy but very helpful. All in all we had lovely stay, the site could be a real gem with some redesign, upgrades and improvements. We will certainly return in the future once we understand the site improvments have been made as it was perfect location to sitesee along the Jurassic coast and beyond.
