Arrival procedure and shop closed
I have just returned from a short break at Brecon Beacons campsite which my wife and I frequently visit throughout the year .
This was our first visit this year and have to say we were somewhat disappointed with the implementation of new rules. .
a) appreciating the new check in times are now 1pm , we set off in good time to allow for any traffic hold ups etc en route . As it turned out , we had an almost clear journey. We actually arrived at the site at 12.35pm, knowing there is ample space to allow at least 5 units to park up safely away from the main road . We were more than happy to await the check in time but we were met by a member of staff who instructed us to drive away and come back at 1pm and not before .
His reasoning :- he did not want a build up of units blocking a farmers track and also going back into the main road . ( as explained above , we were well away from the said road and at this time another unit arrived and was told the same) .
My thoughts :- surely it would make sense then to only “turn away” those that would cause any blockage once the main space was full. . How would it be any “safer” if everyone turned up at the same time at 1pm ( as you suggest) - what is the difference? There would surely be more tailbacks at the entrance with a very strict regime of 1pm.
I am not asking to be let in earlier than 1pm but would like to be allowed to park up in a safe area rather than arrive at 1pm with everyone else and risk having to navigate away from the site onto a very busy and fast road , which is inevitable if this is what we are expected to do .
Surely common sense needs to prevail - units travelling to sites cannot be expected to time it right at 1pm - some degree of leverage is needed .
Arrive 20 mins early and be able to park up safe or arrive after 1pm and be faced with larger queues . Thus putting members in a more dangerous situation by turning them away at the check in time when it’s much busier 🤷♂️.
b) The description of the site says it had a “well stocked shop” on site.
We discovered on arrival that this once very popular and much needed shop is now closed permanently. At reception we were told that “the site is on the edge of Brecon, just down the road “ . This is not correct as Brecon is a mile and a half away from the site. Too far to walk if you are Motorhomers and need essentials in the morning like bread and milk and all other essentials .
It’s an awful shame that children won’t be able to visit the shop and buy sweets and ice creams.
I believe not having a shop on site will have a huge impact .
