A little gem!

Warmly greeted on our arrival. Given clear options of where to park our camper for the weekend and even advised on the best end for least traffic noise. The traffic noise, however was not an issue whatsoever. Pristine shower/toilet blocks (x2) and of course dishwashing facilities which were happily indoors as weather was intermittent rain. Laundry facilities too which again were well kept. We walked to Brecon town along the canal path which was a delight. This took us about 40 minutes. A great cycling option too as flat. Booked Sunday lunch in the Three Horseshoes which was faultless. You need to make sure you book in advance as it is an understandably popular choice. All in all, an excellent campsite and location. Highly recommend.

A previously fantastic site spoilt

Stayed here many times in the past, yes traffic noise can be a problem, but avoid the South West corner. Gone down massively since our last visit. One of the best club shops shut, very cliquey wardens. Its a large site, but the only recycling point is at reception. Why? Some people struggle walking. Toilets very dirty in the morning. Also prices have increased beyond reason.

a lovely site but a shame the shop is closed

Had a lovely stay over the Easter weekend, especially grateful to the warden who helped me assemble my new awning for the first time. A great ambassador for the club. But I was massively disappointed that the shop is now closed, 'permanently' according to the sign in the window. The shop stocked a wide range of items, staff were friendly and helpful and I can't see how it could not be commercially viable in the absence of any nearby retail outlets (unless you count Brecon which is an hour's walk). This is such a retrograde step and I think the Club should explain why it has made this decision. Hence I've downgraded my ratings for the site compared to previous reviews.

Arrival procedure and shop closed

I have just returned from a short break at Brecon Beacons campsite which my wife and I frequently visit throughout the year . This was our first visit this year and have to say we were somewhat disappointed with the implementation of new rules. . a) appreciating the new check in times are now 1pm , we set off in good time to allow for any traffic hold ups etc en route . As it turned out , we had an almost clear journey. We actually arrived at the site at 12.35pm, knowing there is ample space to allow at least 5 units to park up safely away from the main road . We were more than happy to await the check in time but we were met by a member of staff who instructed us to drive away and come back at 1pm and not before . His reasoning :- he did not want a build up of units blocking a farmers track and also going back into the main road . ( as explained above , we were well away from the said road and at this time another unit arrived and was told the same) . My thoughts :- surely it would make sense then to only “turn away” those that would cause any blockage once the main space was full. . How would it be any “safer” if everyone turned up at the same time at 1pm ( as you suggest) - what is the difference? There would surely be more tailbacks at the entrance with a very strict regime of 1pm. I am not asking to be let in earlier than 1pm but would like to be allowed to park up in a safe area rather than arrive at 1pm with everyone else and risk having to navigate away from the site onto a very busy and fast road , which is inevitable if this is what we are expected to do . Surely common sense needs to prevail - units travelling to sites cannot be expected to time it right at 1pm - some degree of leverage is needed . Arrive 20 mins early and be able to park up safe or arrive after 1pm and be faced with larger queues . Thus putting members in a more dangerous situation by turning them away at the check in time when it’s much busier 🤷‍♂️. b) The description of the site says it had a “well stocked shop” on site. We discovered on arrival that this once very popular and much needed shop is now closed permanently. At reception we were told that “the site is on the edge of Brecon, just down the road “ . This is not correct as Brecon is a mile and a half away from the site. Too far to walk if you are Motorhomers and need essentials in the morning like bread and milk and all other essentials . It’s an awful shame that children won’t be able to visit the shop and buy sweets and ice creams. I believe not having a shop on site will have a huge impact .

Exceptional Road & Venue Noise

This site is lovely, I cannot fault it for cleanliness or nice helpful staff. However, the road & venue noise is horrendous, it really is something else. The road noise is constant, day & night. I have never stayed anywhere so noisy, I couldn’t sleep. Lots of big groups of touring motor bikes use the roads as race tracks & the lorries are incredibly loud & they are numerous. It is not the fault of the site & I blame myself for not realising from the map that the site is surrounded by main trunk roads & want to warn other people who don’t like noise. The venue noise went on into the night & it is so close to the site it may as well be on the site. So much for the quiet time rule for after 10pm. Drunken louts shouting & singing until the early hours & loud music too. I do feel that the noise here is so very bad, it is extreme & should therefore be noted on the information page in the sites directory & handbook & on the web site. It is only fair to warn people who like peace & quiet on holiday that this will not be the site for them.

Road noise

Stayed at Brecon club site for 3 nights on a fully serviced pitch, it’s a large site with 2 toilet blocks. Our pitch was a good size and fairly level. We walked into Brecon along the canal path but first you have to cross a couple of very busy roads/roundabouts you have to be quick as the cars come from nowhere, the walk took us about 25 minutes and once there had a nice wander and had a coffee plenty of shops and a Morrisons /Aldi supermarket. We found our pitch to be quite noisy day and night with motor bikes whizzing up and down the main road like a race track although e were told this by the wardens when we arrived but as there were hardly any pitches left to choose from there was not much we could do about this. Overall it’s a nice site and we will visit again some time in the future.

Surprisingly good and well located

Brecon is a large flat site with a well stocked shop and facilities. The highlight for us was the easy access to the Brecon and Monmouth Tow path that allows easy access into Brecon in the west or an excellent route to Talybont and onwards. Brecon has some lovely quirky shops, local supermarkets and several pubs to enjoy.

another excellent stay, shame about the wifi

Have stayed here several times, most recently last week for 3 nights. As always, extremely friendly staff, immaculate facilities and a great location. The Three Horseshoes offers excellent food just ten minute walk away and there is a Chinese restaurant in Brecon that delivers great food to the site. Some parts of the site are noisier than others, in terms of traffic noise from adjacent roads. Two grumbles, both beyond the remit of the site staff. The first is that too many drivers are going way too fast around the site. Last week there were several young children cycling around the site (lovely to see) and the risk of an accident is high. The 5 mph is well marked on the tarmac so I'm not sure what else can be done? The other problem was that the wi-fi was appalling during our stay, the connection kept dropping and sometimes it was impossible to connect at all. It doesn't help that the process for logging of one device, so that my wife can use hers, is so clunky. Some improvements needed here and hopefully this site is on the Club's schedule for upgrading. A big thank you to the staff for their first-class work.
