peace, quiet and nature
We stopped here in our campervan to break our journey up to Scotland, we liked it so much we stopped for 2 nights on the way home. It is nestled in woodlands very close to the shores of Derwent water and if you like walking there are various routes you can take from here, or just have a gentle amble along the shore to Portinscale and the café there or the other direction to the Lodore Hotel. The reception sell discounted tickets on the Derwent water launch for that lovely sale round the Lake. The site does not have toilets or showers but as a self-contained unit that was not a problem for us. Every section has its own toilet waste disposal, grey water and fresh water points and these are kept immaculate. The whole site has that back to nature feel and is very peaceful, you are encouraged to feed the birds and some caravans had their own feeders which was lovely to see. The road to it could be tricky for a car and caravan in busy times but we had no problems. There were some big motorhomes and varying sized caravans there so obviously no too much of a problem. The wardens were lovely so friendly and knowledgeable. We have worked out we can do long weekends here from Suffolk so we will be back as we love the Lakes and this area.
