Good for families

My favourite site in the lakes. Take a walk on the wild side.

Ive stayed on lots of sites in and around the Lake District and this is by far my favourite. This club site won't suite everyone but for my family it is perfect. The site has no facilities and for some people this is a no no but we have a good bathroom in our van and are happy to use it. The site is a little bit further away from towns and villages than a lot of others in the lakes but its only a 20 min drive to the town of Keswick. We prefer a walk down the lake shore and riding the ferry into the town which will take an hour from van to town centre but every second of the walk and ferry trip is fantastic. The ferries stop at the nearest jetty every 30mins or so. If you like the hustle and bustle of a busy site its not for you. This summer we stayed 7 nights and the peace was fantastic. We could only see 4 other pitches from our van and it felt more like wild camping with the added advantage of water and power. We have a 3 and a 5 year old and they could play outside the van with no cars to worry about. The shop on the site has enough to see you through any meal emergency's and the staff like most club sites are fantastic and great to chat to. Each evening we would walk down to the lake and have a swim or skim some stones and it felt like Derwent Water was our own personal lake. We hardly saw a soul and it was bliss. A walk over to the Lodore Fall Hotel for a late afternoon cocktail is also a great way to relax the body and mind after a day enjoying everything this part of the world has to offer.
