This was the loveliest of finds - This was our first visit to this site because we had previously thought it might be too remote for us (we have a motorhome and prefer not to drive if we can help it) but as we wanted to do a bit of walking we thought a couple of days would be lovely - and it was. I cannot praise the warden's enough for their well thought out planning ahead - the convenience of having staples to buy from Reception was incredibly helpful and all good quality produce - local and delicious - from the bread to the sausages. A really first class welcome. The site itself is actually very well positioned for access to Keswick. We walked to Keswick and caught the bus back. The walk around Derwent water is flat and easy to do and the scenery was a real tonic for the soul. We got off the bus at the Lodore Falls hotel (you can also catch the bus from here to go into Keswick), which had seating outside and was serving meals and drinks. The food was lovely and the atmosphere pleasantly welcoming - everyone was just glad to be socializing again (even if we had to sit outside) - part of the outdoor seating was undercover with heating and that was very welcome as the early evening turned a little colder. It was consistently busy though and a much needed treat. This venue is walking distance back to the site and we were able to have a drink and walk along the path around the bottom of Derwent Water, back to the site gate and through the site to our Motorhome. And yes we saw red squirrels during our stay. I can strongly recommend this site if you have a motorhome. This site has now moved to the category of 'our best location in the Lakes' and we look forward to returning.
