Beautiful and handy, but watch your awnings!
In a beautiful wooded location, great for walking and handy for touring around the lake District. The wardens were wonderfully friendly and extremely helpful - faultless. Make sure you follow the direction in the handbook! The satnav route is nigh on impossible with a caravan.
We stayed there just before Easter 2015. Unfortunately, we had 3 days of severe gales and even though the site appeared sheltered we had trouble holding our awning down. Even with storm straps we had to weigh the awning down with handily placed logs, boulders and 25 litre water containers . The awnings either side of us went, in the middle of the night, but because I was up holding the frame until 5 am, we were OK.
The trouble lies in the bases. These were wonderfully level and well drained, of a slate aggregate type, but unfortunately they could not hold a peg, which could not reach adequately into the soil.
