April 2017 - arrived just after Easter Monday but still 1/2 term for some

Unlike many other sites the location of the pitches at Borrowdale is determined by nature and not the need for straight lines! There are no toilets or showers and apart from the availability of EHU it is back to basics. The wardens don't get upset by whereabouts on the pitch you place your outfit or which way you face (so long as fire regulations are conformed with). We faced the "wrong" way and were rewarded with wonderful views, and could only see two other pitches. Bliss!. The site is heavily wooded so not many sun bathing spots, but we get those abroad. The bus ride into Keswick (clockwise) is over an hour and a quarter but the scenery is to die for. Going the other way the bus takes about 25 minutes. The taxi fare is around £14 so you can spend the night in the bright lights and not break the bank. Speaking of the bright lights try "St Mungos in Keswick for a Pancake breakfast, and the Theatre for excellent plays. The journey to the site is a bit tricky, we always use the Grange Bridge route. It can be very tight if anyone parks badly in the village (and they do). We had to fold the MH mirrors in and my wife shouted out how close we were to the wall (no pavement). She got down to "two inches", but I didn't tell her we were closer than that to the Range Rover parked with his nearside two foot out. You can approach from the North but the mini bus (about the same size as a MH) grounds out on a couple of corners coming on that road, and I didn't fancy the same happening to us. If you are going for a launch trip on the Lake buy tickets from the warden we (OAPs) saved £2 each compared to buying direct. For walkers this site offers many routes and levels of challenge.
