Lovely peaceful location. The pitch we selected was huge and well maintained. It was so nice to be surrounded by trees, a variety of wildlife and some very friendly ducks. The site is well located for walking on the Bolton Abbey estate which meant that we did not have to use the car all weekend. We had originally planned on using the local bus to go to Grassington and walk back but due to the Tour de Yorkshire it was cancelled - will try again on our next visit. The food at Cravan Arms - Appletreewick is excellent and dog friendly. Will definitely be visiting the site again.
Well worth the visit
Had five night stay at the site and found it to be a very nice well maintained site with good walks along both sides of the river. Ideal for dog walking too.
Downside is the arch just before arrival at the site which is difficult to negotiate when busy, particularly when vehicles park on the approach to it. Can't understand why there is no traffic light control?
Despite this will certainly visit again.
Dawn chorus relaxation
Spend the mayday bank holiday weekend on site. This was my second trip to this site. I'll be comming again for sure.
It's a lovely peaceful clean site with good facilities.
This spring trip was made by the amount of bird song. It was absolutely lovely to wake up to a dawn chorus that went on until the sun went down. There were loads of birds of all different shapes and sizes. Ducks were sleeping between the pitches too.
It is a lovely quiet site, with friendly wardens too. There were families staying on site, and the kids looked like whey were having fun. Whilst at the same some not "getting in the way" of those without families.
All in all. I highly recommend this site.

Wonderful Wildlife
We have stayed here a couple of weekends already this season. The site is a quick hours run from our home but also offers wonderful opportunities for watching the wildlife and also seeing the change in the wildflowers in the woodlands. This year there has been a swathe of white wood anenome, then wild garlic and bluebells.
The wardens are very welcoming and as always the site and facilities are well maintained and clean. The bird feeders on the site attract a range of birdlife and it is not unusual to see a woodpecker having breakfast! We have also seen nuthatches and a range of water and wading birds on or within 20 minutes walk of the site. Bats are not uncommon in the evening especially if you sit in the hide just below the strid cafe. I have never seen an otter though but will now keep an eye out. Thanks Howorth for that information.
Walking in the area is very good and last time we walked up to Simons Seat we saw red kite. The Craven Arms is Appletreewick is a welcome rest stop on a long walk and serves a range of real ales.
This is a great site and one we intend to visit again.
Lovely and quiet
Beautiful well kept site and owners were lovely. Plenty of walking and by river lots of birds, wild flowers and to our amazement one evening saw otters playing in the water. However disappointed as site info showed a tick against cycling which we looked forward to with so many paths, but there were 'No cycling' signs everywhere. Only place to cycle on main road which was hilly for around 2.5 miles before a track could be found. We are too nervous to cycle on roads in traffic so had to abandon this plan. Public transport very limited and took an hour to walk to Bolton Abbey 3.5 miles away. Nearest shop for supplies about 5 miles. This is fine if you have a car but being motorhomers we tend to walk and cycle everywhere. Feel site more suited to caravanners or at least people with transport. Sorry to not give a glowing review as site is lovely but didn't meet our requirements .

Nice little site
Stayed ester weekend, this is a lovely clean site with loads of walks for those who like this. Weather was cold and rainy and with poor TV (6 channels at best) would advise games or dvd's be brought along to keep young children entertained in poor weather. They arch entrance near the Abbey is a bit of a hold your breath moment. My 1 criticism was arriving just after 12.30 pm to find 2 other vans waiting and be told couldn't go on site till 1 pm unless a backlog happened 10 minutes and 4 more vans later this happened! Thinking I had missed a notice on the web site about the arrival time, I checked on returning home. No I had not missed this. It is in the hand book but as most of us now look at and book online this may be helpful. Also the leaving by 11am when busy means a early start if a awaning etc to be pack away.
4 night stay
Enjoyed our say here over the easter holidays. I had apprehension on approch to the site due to the arch in the road but I just followed previous advise. Get your outfit straight for entry and you will be fine. Lots of walks around the abbey. Site clean and well kept. Used site Wifi which worked well. Defintly revist this one.
What a site. Fantastic
We have been trying to get on this site for a couple of years now and it had to be the scroll click for 20 minutes on December 8th that finally did it. The site is fantastic, well kept, clean and tidy the wardens Brian and Janet were very nice, kind and very helpful especially as I had been shopping and forgotten to buy an onion for the spag bol I was going to make for tea. There were none for sale in the shop but Janet very kindly got one from her kitchen for me. Superb service. The site is brilliant for walking, as we have three border terriers that love to walk, it was ideal. We stayed for five nights over Easter, some days were wet and cloudy and some nice and sunny, just the usual british weather. We will definately be back maybe not on a bank holiday but defo be back.
