Warm welcome on arrival, very well maintained site, but traffic noise was an issue
We were very warmly welcomed on our arrival, and were pleased with the standard of maintenance on the site. The site is terraced, and having chosen a higher pitch we had impressive views of the surrounding peaks including the dramatic Roaches. The site is right next to the A53 between Leek and Buxton, which meant easy access by car to both towns, but even on the upper part of the site traffic noise was a constant issue from early morning until night, including heavy vehicles pulling up the hills, or idiotic speed lovers accelerating to the top. The open nature of the countryside meant the sound carried for some distance. Another problem of a location like this is the difficulty of cycling from the site, though for the rides we wanted to do, the Manifold Trail and Rudyard Lake, we chose to take our bikes in the car anyway. We found Leek to be a very characterful town with independent shops (though also a large Sainsburys on the outskirts), and Buxton very impressive and enjoyable around the Pavilion Gardens but somewhat let down by the shopping streets.
