Dog bother
Hi
We choose to try out our new caravan and awning at a site not too far from home, Leek is only an hour away. Having recently decided to part exchange our beloved Bessacarr Motorhome to try our caravanning, which hopefully offers us more 'dog space' and the benefit of having a car to drive off out in.
Review time: This site is very well maintained by friendly and informative site wardens.
The facilities aren't large but are cleaned to a high standard.
The pitches are all huge which is greatly appreciated. I hope who ever is next on pitch number 35 continues to feed the squirrel and many birds that visit, the wardens do top up the bird tables but I bought extra for our much welcome visitor.
Leek is a lovely small town with a lot of individual shops, and many antique shops.
Tittesworth reservoir with its café and good walking paths was only 5 minuets drive away.
Our best walk of the week was along the ridge called the Roaches, fantastic views without too much of a climb.
Highly recommended for eating out, especially if you have a dog or two, The Lazy Trout at Meerbrook just up the road from the site, 10 minuet drive. We had been recommended it by some of my dog owning friends and happy now to recommend it ourselves, The food was excellent.
DOG BOTHER: I would like to apologise to the wardens for allowing our two dogs off lead on the dog walk, our problem is that they will not go to the toilet on the lead, both are very well behaved, obedient and very friendly towards people and their dogs. Any other dog approaching on a lead and we would call ours to our side, they do not retaliate when barked at or worse, they choice to ignore those dogs, and owners who are less friendly. I do understand having trained dogs that some dogs are nervous, maybe unwell or have a degree of aggression and therefore do not tolerate unfamiliar dogs approaching, hence why I have trained mine to come to heel and only approach when told they can do so. Your warden did advice us of the policy to keep dogs on a lead, and once again advised us as we were heading off home. Just a shame dogs are to remain on the lead in an area designated for dog toileting. Dog owners are often very tolerant of each other, and understand the difficulties some owners have in training their dogs especially those that have had a difficult start and are from rescue ( as ours are) However their are specialist trainers available to give advice and training to those owners who are struggling. A happy dog is a trained dog, and happy owners have trained dogs.
