Nice site friendly staff .

A nice peaceful site very friendly and helpful Staff , Enjoyed some lovely walks in the area with the dogs especially up to the Roaches and around a lovely lake that was close by . We enjoyed visiting Leek on Market day, and lovely scenic drive to Bakewell only 20 mins away, we were lucky enough to go there on the day of the Farmers market which was excellent . Lots to do in the area we will definitely be going back :)

Easy to find rural gem

My second visit to this neat little site. We arrived on site at 1400 on Friday and were welcomed by friendly staff in the reception. There were many spaces available, a bonus as my caravan-reversing skills leave a little to be desired. I was with a group of four couples, so we were able to procure adjoining pitches. I was advised that if I had a problem with parking a member of staff would be there to give help, luckily not necessary. The toilet/shower block is easy to get to from all pitches. Immaculate as always, but I was surprised to see that the main lights appeared to be on all night. I noticed this because I was forced to spend the Saturday night using the facilities due to sickness. The dog- walking area has been extended and is nicely pathed with wood chip surfaces. There are numerous hostelries quite near to the site and picturesque walks nearby. Leek, the nearest town is a joy to visit, with numerous markets and smaller shops. My only gripe is the road noise which I did not notice on my first visit but was much more noticeable while on an adjoining pitch as I was this time. All the pitches seem relatively easy and there is a fine children's play area central to the site and not close to the main road. A nice area that I shall visit again.

Very brief visit but we'll be back

Stayed for just one night having picked up our new caravan in Stoke. We previously had a motorhome and the wardens couldn't have been more helpful, coming round to check that we could work everything out. Also came and fixed a small issue we had with great good humour! When we were leaving they asked about future plans and we were given some excellent advice about the approach to one site we are to use. The site is ideally located for a number of places to visit, with a bus stop handy if you don't want to drive. As other reviewers have said, there is road noise but we weren't aware of it from inside the 'van. Facilities immaculate. Good long dog walk and plenty of bins. We will certainly come back to explore the area.

Long weekend break

We chose this site as we'd never been to Leek before and wanted to visit their Sat. Antiques market. Arrived on the Friday and were welcomed by the warden who gave a full briefing. Pitch availability was mixed, we chose 59 at the top and were pleased we did ( as the pitches near the road would have been very noisy as the road was quite a race track!!). We needed levelling . blocks but the views from the pitch were good over to the rocky tor and fields behind. The shower block was immaculate and site well maintained. Having a motorhome we like to pitch up and use public transport. Bus stop just down road with buses to Leek every two hours. Waitrose on the bus route. There is a good dog friendly pub called The Cock serving local real ales and a dog friendly cafe called The Spout. Sadly The Three Horseshoes nearest the site ( a hotel/spa) doesn't accept dogs even in the bar which is a shame given the location to the site. The dog walk on site is limited and near the road (hence dogs must be on lead) although it is adequate with plenty of dog bins. Great walk from the site ( turn right and follow pavement to wooden public footpath sign) into open hilly countryside. We hope to return.

Good, but loud

Wardens were great, chatty and very friendly, and they worked hard all day keeping the site clean and tidy. The site is good for walks to the Roaches and surrounding hills, also a few good pubs and towns around to explore. The only let-down is it is very noisy! we were at the top of the site to get away from the road noise, (as most people seem to do), and to our horror a motorcycle scramble track was at the back of us, with 6 or so of them going round the track. Don't come here for a peaceful break, best to go out in the daytime to escape the noise.

Great site but............

We arrived on Friday evening and the only pitches available where backing on to the main road. Just as we'd finished pitching up there was a power cut which lasted a couple of hours and site was in complete darkness. We were woken up very early due to the traffic noise from the road. Luckily we spotted a Motorhome leaving early and so we moved pitch. Our 2nd pitch was on the top terrace and although we could still here the road noise it wasn't intrusive. Pitches are large with hedge screening and there was a toilet block on the top terrace as well as at reception. The Wardens were very friendly too. We walked from the site over Hen Cloud and the Roaches as the weather was lovely. We will definitely return but hopefully we will arrive earlier and not get a pitch by the road next time.

Wi-fi hopeless

Enjoyed site, rain excluded, hope to return in better weather. Wi-fi did not work over my two day stay. I am fed up paying for a service which is generally poor or worse. Currently on a private site charging £7 per week for Wi-fi which works perfectly well worth the money.

Dog bother

Hi We choose to try out our new caravan and awning at a site not too far from home, Leek is only an hour away. Having recently decided to part exchange our beloved Bessacarr Motorhome to try our caravanning, which hopefully offers us more 'dog space' and the benefit of having a car to drive off out in. Review time: This site is very well maintained by friendly and informative site wardens. The facilities aren't large but are cleaned to a high standard. The pitches are all huge which is greatly appreciated. I hope who ever is next on pitch number 35 continues to feed the squirrel and many birds that visit, the wardens do top up the bird tables but I bought extra for our much welcome visitor. Leek is a lovely small town with a lot of individual shops, and many antique shops. Tittesworth reservoir with its café and good walking paths was only 5 minuets drive away. Our best walk of the week was along the ridge called the Roaches, fantastic views without too much of a climb. Highly recommended for eating out, especially if you have a dog or two, The Lazy Trout at Meerbrook just up the road from the site, 10 minuet drive. We had been recommended it by some of my dog owning friends and happy now to recommend it ourselves, The food was excellent. DOG BOTHER: I would like to apologise to the wardens for allowing our two dogs off lead on the dog walk, our problem is that they will not go to the toilet on the lead, both are very well behaved, obedient and very friendly towards people and their dogs. Any other dog approaching on a lead and we would call ours to our side, they do not retaliate when barked at or worse, they choice to ignore those dogs, and owners who are less friendly. I do understand having trained dogs that some dogs are nervous, maybe unwell or have a degree of aggression and therefore do not tolerate unfamiliar dogs approaching, hence why I have trained mine to come to heel and only approach when told they can do so. Your warden did advice us of the policy to keep dogs on a lead, and once again advised us as we were heading off home. Just a shame dogs are to remain on the lead in an area designated for dog toileting. Dog owners are often very tolerant of each other, and understand the difficulties some owners have in training their dogs especially those that have had a difficult start and are from rescue ( as ours are) However their are specialist trainers available to give advice and training to those owners who are struggling. A happy dog is a trained dog, and happy owners have trained dogs.
