A Little Confused!
I've titled this A Little Confused for good reason as I am exactly that after reading some of the other reviews on the site - so I have decided to be as honest as possible about our recent stay at Berwick Seaview.
Firstly - the site is in Spittal, not Berwick but its as close as that makes no difference and the approach is from a road with speed retarders then up quite a steep driveway - longer units beware you may ground out.
Check in - there are 4 wardens looking after the site and you may find that if you have a larger unit then the pitches available to you will have been partly allocated as the site is not one that you can drive around looking for one that has the best view, faces South for the sun, is not under a tree, doesn't have any neighbours etc - I thought this was a good idea and when you drive onto the site you realise just why. Very happy with our pitch on the 'upper tier' against the East Coast Main Line.
Railway Noise - the site is quite long and narrow and is bordered by the ECML so expect trains on it - express trains - with a number of coaches. Also expect freight trains and engineering operations. The trains start early and finish late but honestly they are past in no time and the noise did not bother us in the slightest - in fact we knew what type of train was passing by the end of our stay from the sound.
Seagulls - For some reason as the railway quietens down the local seagull population takes up residence and personally they need to be served an ASBO. I thought birds were quiet at night! These are most definitely not. The CAMC need the services of the SAS here (Seagull Assassination Squad) :) These birds will disturb the peace and are more of a pain than a passing HST.
Facilities - can be either on your doorstep or a walk away - luck of the draw. Only one block and this would be my only real criticism of the site as it would benefit from a second block at busy times - that said you don't find yourself waiting long for your chosen ablution if you arrive at the same time as everyone else. Would also benefit from renovation at some point but its kept very clean and tidy given the size of site and its full occupancy.
Wardens - oh dear CAMC !
Why can't every site have wardens like these? Brilliant, nothing too much trouble, very pleasant and assistive with anything they can assist with! I misplaced a charger for my camera - I asked if I ordered one could it be delivered to the site - no problem at all. In fact it even arrived at my pitch by the grasscutter express! Amazing! If people treat the wardens as fellow humans then I am sure that they will get a beneficial response.
All in all a brilliant stay on a brilliant site with great wardens. We will be back to Berwick at some point as there is so much to see in the local area - you can even get a noisy train to Edinburgh for the day for around £19 return.
