The route to this rather special site from A1 is straightforward. The site rises fairly steeply from Billendean road, and is contoured into several terraces. We stayed for 7 nights in September 2016, on a site at the top level in the northenmost cul de sac. Here the access drive is relatively narrow, the pitches not deep, and there's not a great deal of wiggle room. Views from many pitches, over the Tweed estuary and the North Sea, are magnificent. A gate pass is needed for vehicular access and also for exit. A bus stop outside the site is served by bus B6 which takes you to central Berwick. The helpful wardens will give you a bus timetable. Asda and Tesco supermarkets are not too far away. Although "Site Full" notices were up, the very good amenity block coped without a problem. Behind our pitch ran the east coast main railway, but we didn't find the rush of passing trains unduly noisy or intrusive. Berwick itself is mighty interesting, with its special walls walk. The site is superbly placed for virtually all the outstanding attractions of Northumbria, and in addition there are some great unspoilt sandy beaches nearby. Futhermore, the scenic east coast of Scotland is just a few miles away. We had a great week and would love to return someday.
If anyone says they don't hear the trains they are either deaf or dead. The site and wardens are excellent some pitches have a beautiful view others look at trees. 5.38 was the first train in the morning and a further 8 trains till 09.00. The albion pub is very dog friendly and serves a lovely pint. 2 nights was long enough for me
We had a 1 night stay here and were lucky to get a really good pitch with a view. Be aware there are many with no view at all and the train line is directly behind the site. Fantastic location and very clean and tidy with friendly staff.
Spent four nights here in mid September. A very busy site that was full most days we were there. Access to pitches was tight in places and would have been quite tricky for caravans without a mover. With only one narrow uphill access road it was quite easy for the exit to be blocked during peak arrival times as vans have little option but to queue on the approach road. Nice sea views and other than for very light sleepers the London to Edinburgh trains whistling past from 6am were ot a major noise issue.
Plenty to see in the area with Lindisfarne, Bamburgh Castle and the Farne Islands boats all being within half an hours drive. The beach at Bamburgh is delightful if the weather is kind. Our favourite was Chillingham Castle, however, with it's remarkable collection of antiquities and enchanting walled parterre garden. Alnwick and the cliffs at St Abbs are also in easy driving distance.
Wasn't particularly impressed with Berwick itself but for three highly redeeming features. The first was The Barrels pub near the end of the old road bridge from the site into Berwick. The atmosphere here was always friendly and the décor interesting for music lovers. Live music once a week. The second was the Queens Head restaurant where we were impressed by the food, service and humour of the staff. The third was the Magna Tandoori just round the corner from the Barrels where I had the best Tandoori Chicken and Mattar Panir ever.
Took a walk along the promenade in Spittal, just below the site, and whilst not the most picturesque was a pleasant way to walk off dinner before a quick pint in the Albion local pub. This was friendly and better than making the long trek into Berwick on a wet night.
Stayed here for 5 nights in september a lovely well kept site with helpful freindly wardens. The views over the north sea and the tweed are really very good and the promenade at spittal close to the site is old and quaint and easy to get to walking or by car.
Berwick itself is a nice town with plenty to see and do, and being located in the borders there are plenty other attractions close by.
If I had any negatives about the site it would be the pitches are quite "tight" as are the roads, if you end up at the back of the site be aware the trains run past on a regular basis, but after a few nights you get used to it.
This must be one of the best sites on which we have stayed, for the following reasons:
1. Splendid views over the mouth of the Tweed and the North Sea.
2. Easy close access to Borders countryside and towns, and to places of interest, e.g. Lindisfarne.
3. Berwick (half hour walk) has lots of interest, especially historically. We also went to a great gig at the Maltings Arts Centre.
4. Spittal Village itself was surprising - sea front with old-fashioned promenade, and, If you take the time to find out, it also has an fascinating industrial history.
5. Helpful and efficient wardens - our thanks to them.
6. Excellent well kept facilities.
7. To us, the trains were not a problem, but more a source of interest.
We spent 4 nights here on our way North. First impressions were good, views are stunning and staff helpful. However, we found the pitches very tight to get the van into (no luxury of a motor mover). The only pitches available were those at the rear and, as stated previously, the train runs right behind the site. I'm sure if you're lucky enough to get a pitch at the front this is a fantastic site. My tip would be to arrive as early as possible to grab one of the front pitches.
Had an enjoyable 2 nights stay at Berwick Seaview on our way south.
Site and facilities are well maintained.
Wardens are pleasant and helpful....one of the wardens quickly sorted out a problem when someone thought he would park his chair on a pitch (obviously keeping pitch for a friend!) and refused to move it.....the site was very busy and we had not many pitches to chose from.......thanks for sorting the problem out..... and we did enjoy the pitch and view! Just booked to stay on our return journey home as it is a great site and well located.
I must say i rate this site very highly it is a superb setting with lovely views across the bay it dogs paradise with lovely sandy beaches some beautiful walks we had lovely weather and it is situated within driving.distance of some lovely towns and villages especialy kelso we had a great time and will defo be going back one thing i did find was there isi inadequate lighting a.small fault
We had a short 5 nights break here in September. Facilities were clean as you would expect from a Caravan Club site. Berwick is a nice town with plenty of interesting places to visit and good cycling routes. Holy Island and Bamburgh castle are close by and beautiful places to visit.
NOTE: The main East Coast rail line passes right by this site. Trains do run from Around 7am - 11:30pm although you do get used to it after 2 or three days :-)
